I was at my local Guitar Center yesterday and my trusty Pro-Audio guy told me to add a Compressor to my overall band sound. I have heard of using a Compressor for like Vocals, drums etc., but not for the overall Band output as a whole. He told me it was very important and was key to having a good overall sound... what our some opinions on this??

Aug 26, 2007 11:08 am We don't run a compressor on the whole sound. We run a compressor on each vocal channel and on a few of the drum channels. That leaves us the flexibility to fine tune things. Different sound sources will require different amounts of compression, if any.
Compressing the overall sound might be a good place to start, but I don't really think it's the way to go.

Aug 27, 2007 07:40 am if you're looking at adding a processor to "add" to you're over all live sound I'd suggest looking into a sonic maximizer. I agree with jim as well. a compressor his a very handy tool .

Aug 27, 2007 08:29 am thanks for the input fellas. I have a BBE i880 I think it is, that I just started using on the overall sound. I like it, it really adds punch and clarity. I have some Subs I just bought also, with a X-Over, but I have to wait for our next gig in September before I can really use them, they are just so overkill in our rehearsal Studio.
