We want to do a small gig out at a park which only has (1)15AMP receptacle available at the pavillion. All of the equipment we are running consumes about 40AMPs. What is the opinion of using a 5500Watt Generator for some more powering option?? Is it not safe to use a generator with music equipment??

Aug 14, 2007 04:03 pm We've done almost every fieldstock with generators.
At first, smaller ones, now we have a big diesel thing, that powers everything.
A long heavy feed cord (12g or bigger) would be good to keep the noise away from you.

Aug 19, 2007 11:47 pm You're within power limits with that size of generator. Most generators today put out a very reasonably filtered and stable ac source. Older generators made for power tools etc. were a little sketchy for audio equipment.
Aug 20, 2007 07:18 pm yeah we had three generators for our last schindig in the field. one for audio, one for lights, and one for various other things. my biggest problem was them beein' so damn loud! we had ours right behind the stage, so the poor drummer heard RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR constantly.

Aug 21, 2007 07:40 am we've got some big cable, that routes up towards the stage. keeps the generator back 50 or so feet from the back of stage.
It's there, but not bad. Kinda like a neighbor's air conditioner. Noticable, but not bad.
