Annoying Adobe Audition / Cool Edit Blips and pops

Hi Guys. Been a while. I posted a problem with my M-Audio USB Pro which was resolved thanks to this forum. I hope the same expertise can be adapted to my new problem.

I have always used Cool Edit to record and edit vocal and guitar parts and have recently started using Adobe Audition 2.0.

Whith both software there is a problem with the editing process.

When you finish your recording, and tidy-up the track by cutting a bit of the end and maybe shaving a bit of the start (as you do), There is an annoying pop sound when the recording finishes, at the end of the sample!

I have tried using the click/pop eraser thing - no effect. I trim the track so it is bang on the mark. No over lapping in to the next bar. So my new recording is bang on 4 bars long or whatever - No effect.

It's annoying because when you loop the part in reason you have a click sound every time the sample ends and the new one begins.

This does not happen with a downloaded drum loop or sample from another source, just with stuff I record on Audition. If I loop the recording it sounds fine too, no pop. But if I do not lopp and let the new recording play till the end then a pop appears when the recording finishes.

Please help me guys. I love adobe audition because it is user friendly and I have used Cool Edit in the past (Which also has the same problem) but this pop sound at the end of the recording is frustrating.

I know what might be causing this. When you record silence, does the 'flat line' hover above or below the center line in the graph? If so, you need to go to Options > Device Properties > Wave In, and check 'Adjust to zero-DC when recording'. I'll bet that fixes it.

The path to that setting may be different for AA 2.0., but that's where it is in Cool Edit and AA 1.5.

Prolly what's happening when you delete the end/beginning of the recording during your tidying process, the wav is not ending at 0. You need to make sure you cut where the wav crosses the 0db line or else it will pop. Does that make sense? You will probably need to zoom in to the end of the track so as to cut right where the wave crosses 0.

Good idea also, coolo. Tetsuo, if my first suggestion doesn't solve the problem, go to Options > Settings > Multitrack, and check 'Auto Zero-Cross Edits.'

A quirk about Cool Edit and AA (at least the 1.5 version): You can usually avoid the DC shift problem (flat line off the center line of the graph) by turning the input sliders all the way down in the Windows recording mixer, and using your other input/mixer controls to adjust the input level. Don't ask me why, but it works. Must be a design flaw.

Yep, they have it right. You need to make our cuts snap at the zero crossing in order to eliminate the popping and cracking sounds.
