Jul 26, 2007 12:27 pm I always wondered the same thing... is it like a psychoacoustic thing? or just a tradition?
Jul 26, 2007 01:00 pm I think he means like in an EQ spectrum. Lows are on the left, highs are on the right.

Jul 26, 2007 01:18 pm Ah yes, of course. Left=low, right=high.
So if I have a 31 band EQ, is the one in the middle high or low?

Jul 26, 2007 01:31 pm I'm having a walters moment here...
Jul 26, 2007 01:38 pm OK, why do we say a tempo is faster when nothing is moving any faster, the beats are just happening more frequently? Same for a "faster" Internet connection that is actually just higher bandwidth...electricity travels at one speed.
I got several of 'em.

Jul 28, 2007 07:12 pm Welcome to the nut farm!
Herb, the higher bandwidth does in the end mean higher speed. Instead of limiting the packet size to say 0.5mbs the higher bandwidth allows 3mbs or more. Meaning the packet gets there faster in the end.
I do agree though it isn't really a speed thing though is it?
Jul 28, 2007 07:56 pm I came up with this rather complex question set about 15 years ago. My wife Tambra uses it when she teaches Professional Ethics. I also posed the question to radio host Art Bell, and he had no answer. But if you remember Art, that should come as no surprise. It's almost as controversial as politics or religion; people will argue about it forever, and it seems no one is right.
Discussion One:
Can you be guilty of littering by throwing money on the ground?
Discussion Two:
You are walking along the street, and you see something on the ground that looks like money, or something else that is valuable. As you pick it up, you realize it is not valuable, but just trash. At this moment, you’ve picked it up a fraction of an inch off the ground, barely moving it. Realizing your error, you immediately let go of it, leaving it exactly where it was.
Are you guilty of littering?
If you answered yes, would it then be littering if -
You moved it in another way (by kicking it, brushing it, etc.) to ascertain its value?
You thought about picking it up and throwing it in the trash, but walked past it?
If you answered no, when would it become littering – or – when, if ever, would you have taken responsibility for the article in question?

Jul 28, 2007 08:18 pm heh ... here it would be theft
all things abandoned on city property (sidewalks, curbs, etc.) are city property...including trash. It was an attempt to make dumpster diving illegal...but it's mostly ignored...
Jul 28, 2007 08:23 pm Right zek, but the question wasn't about taking the item. It was about leaving it.

Jul 28, 2007 08:48 pm but it applies because if taking the item is illegal in the first place then returning it is the obvious solution.
It's perceived value is not the issue... it's simply not your item.
Jul 28, 2007 09:30 pm See.. this is what I was talking about. Too many perspectives create problematic solutions. In most cases though, the city won't claim ownership of litter.

Jul 29, 2007 04:30 am i asked a cop if it was illegal to throw a banana peel or an apple core etc. her answer was, it depends on where it lands...if it's on the road, it's littering, if it's in grass or whatever, it's not.

I can't improve on that. I wish I were still as smart as I was at 13.
Aug 06, 2007 09:30 am we had a song that went (in a rap style)
"turn the bass up and turn the treble down, put the middle in the middle and you'll hear the sound....of Art...Bell's...voice"
i used to love that show.

Aug 06, 2007 02:04 pm As soon as you come into contact, foot, hand, whatever, with trash on a public thouroughfare, it is your responsibility to dispose of it. If you leave it, it is littering.
Only two things can be dropped from a vehicle on public roadways and are not considered litter. 1. Feathers from live birds, and 2. clear water. Even dirt dropped off a dump truck is illegal.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha
funny, but true...kinda.
It's midrange...go thru your EQ turning each band up one by one and see what it is...
