I'm in the market for a new pair of overhead mics... The price range is $300 - $400 dollars... What would you buy?
Currently looking at the Rode NT5 matched pair... Would these be better than my C1000s mics?

Very good mic for over heads, and pretty good all around SDC's.
I also use a pair of these little units from Samson.

They are very good as well and will not blow your whole budget.
You can also look into these from Karma.

The K10's are very reasonable for a matched pair, but the K-Micros's are an extreme mic in a very tiny package and the price is unbelievable at $20.00 for a matched pair. I am just finishing a review of them and they are and excelant mic at that price. They sound as good as mic's going for 10 times that price.
Jul 23, 2007 11:45 pm x2 on the NT5s... I have the NT4, which has two NT5 capsules setup in a fixed XY setup. I never have phasing issues and it's great for a lot of things besides drum overheads. Acoustic guitar sounds fantastic, but you may need a rolloff when you process it later. Good luck.

Jul 24, 2007 09:37 pm Indeed, after testing the K-Micros I am completely impressed and am going to order their tube mic soon. I have heard nothing but good about them as well from a couple of other sources that I trust.
