What is Behringer???

I've been doing AV for over 10 years now and there's industry standards in audio and video. (Midas,Mackie,Shure,DBX,Ashly,Meyer etc..)
But after playing with a few of their stuff I find Behringer not a bad product for the price, for sure I wouldn't compare a Midas board to a Behringer but at first glance it is comparable to a low grade Mackie board for a third of the price, obviously the quality of the components is lower but I would like to know what is the overall taught regarding Behringer.
All I work with is industry standard gear witch is way over my budget for now.
But I don't know much about Behringer except for those weekly lawsuits they are getting.

Yeah, somebody is always slapping them for being naughty. Overall, I have been very pleased with the gear of theirs that I have had. Here at HRC tyou will likely find a good 50/50 mix some love it, some hate it...it's a draw.

I love my Behringer mixer. Great product for fifty bucks. I don't have a vast amount of experience with the product line though.

And I really don't give a tinker's damn about the lawsuits.

I don't care about the lawsuits either, from what I red Behringer's phylosophy is to take a good product and modify the schematics a "little bit" to create a similar product for 3 times cheaper!!! :)

need more of those companies I think!!!

There's the crowd that believes they should boycott Behringer because Uli is a thief, or they won't shop at Mall-Wart because of the way they perceive the employees are treated, etc. etc.; so they won't support those companies on principle. Pffppffft. I'm just not that altruistic. I'll stop buying Behringer, and quit shopping at Mall-Wart when they no longer save me money. It's all about Herb.

This post's for dB...just in case he was harboring notions that I may be a leftist pinko. :-D

My understanding is basically that over the past couple year Behringer has gotten better and Mackie has gotten worse... fallen below Yamaha now.... which is making some decent stuff now... I run a Yamaha board at church and don't have too much trouble with it.

None of the behringer products I've used sounded good so the only thing I have is their 8 channel headphone amp... and I've received complaints on that... it's hella noisy and I usually warn people now that the noise isn't 'really' in the recording.

Back to the Behringer thing.

I as well run several pieces of Behringer gear including a 32 x 8 desk. Before that I ran a 24 x 4 desk and had no trouble at all with any of it. Granted it is not of the caliber of equipment I cut my teeth on but who cares. I get good quality sound out of it and the price was exactly as stated, just right for what I needed. I can afford to give away time with the cost of gear that way, and many have seen the benefit of that and not complained, and neither have the paying customers either.

I still keep a little MX-1602 for my son to use as well and no bad has come from that little mixer either.

Noize2u How do you find the "noise" situation?? is their gear usable in a pro semi-pro environment?? I mostly want to do location recording I ordered the 1622FX and looking at the Ultra Q T1951 that I would insert in chanel 1 and 2 instead of using the strip EQ

I hear a lot of people complain about the noisy preamps, and other Behringer mixers may differ, but I can tell you that the noise from my UB802, with all 5 pots at maximum - no input - is lower than -74 dB, the noise floor of my sound card. Yes, it's a stock SoundMAX card, and I'll be replacing it soon with an M-Audio 24/96. I haven't had a real need for anything fancier, so quit yer laughing for now.

I know more channels add more noise, but I also believe this is a pretty good spec for an inexpensive mixer. The actual noise floor may be much lower than my measurement capabilities allow.

Well I do work on the Pro level and have had no complaints as of yet. I do commercials, sound track work, ambient music, sample and loop creation as well as work for many bands both big time and small time. All the work that comes out of here is run through the Behringer desk with no ill effects or overly noisy things going on. For me it is the fact that everything is accessible from top so if I need to move anything it is right there in front of me.

I as well use an older model digital EQ from them on certain things. It is the Ultra Curve Pro 8024. Only problem I have had with it is the internal memory battery hitting the skids, but that is not something I would consider bad, just normal use.

I have heard some good things about the T1951, nothing bad about it at all.

I have a UB2222FX-Pro and its very quiet, the preamps seem to be a decent quality and builtin fx aren't half bad either. I had a Yamaha mixer prior to this one and while it was pretty nice it wasn't nearly as nice as the behringer I have now. For the price I think they're tough to beat.

i like my 1622fx. getting a slight whine on the tape input/output, but not noticeable unless total silence. the pre amps are pretty good, imho, much better than the freakin' portastudio the xenyx replaced.

Yeah, I started with a little 802 which was fine, later upgraded to a UB1622FX...there was a noticable difference in preamps with the UB series over their predecessors, but even the previous ones, while a little more colored and noisier were still perfectly acceptable for most situations.

I have a friend that owns his own live sound company and it runs all Behringer mixers and nobody complains...

I have a lot of Behringer stuff and I haven't really had any issues at all with it. I wouldn't gig with it though. A lot of their stuff seems to be a little cheap when it comes to knobs/buttons breaking off and such. All my stuff is in a home studio and has never been removed. All of it works the same as if it was new.

The T1951 works really well for me. I use it to warm up POD tracks and also for a pre-amp when I'm recording using condensor mics.

All Behringer?/ I know it's tempting I am looking for a bunch of gear on ebay, just looked for a parametric eq and I could get a new Behringer Q for the price of an old beatup Rane.

On the Rane piece, don't go there depending on what it is. Some of that was very cheaply built. I bought a used one just to have as a spare and it was the worst piece of gear I had ever owned. I brought it in to have it looked at and the tech stated. "It is what it is and there ain't no fixin it!"

I use the 8034 for ringing out the room mostly. Its pretty much the only reason I bought it was for the analyzer potion of it. It will set itself once it rings out the room which is very cool.
