Every Time I record an acoustic guitar it ends up being too bassy.

Is there a place on the guitar I am supposed to put the mic.

How can I fix this problem.?

Keep the mic away from the hole.

Yep, that is proximity effect happening. Moving the mic around a bit until you find the sweet spot is highly recommended.

I typically record acoustic guitar with two or three mics. I usually point two SM 57s right at the 14th fret in an "X-Y" position (something to do with phasing). Sometimes I use an additional mic...my Behringer B2...about two feet away from the sound hole. Then I blend the signals to get just the right sound.

Agree with guitar jim, and in my opinion the 12th fret is 'the' classic place to start.

new strings will help too, if'n you haven't done that yet.

I use rode nt5, one pointing at the hole, around 1 ft away, plus I use a direct track too (electro-acoustic)

If it's too bassy then I typically try micing the sound box just below the neck... usually about 6 inches away...

I use a single mic, either SM57 or my MXL992 condensor aimed at about the 12th or so fret when I record acoustic, works for me.

I use a single mic also, I use the K2 around the 12th fret.

There is a good article on mic technique andplacement as well as mic choices at this page and you might find it helpful.

as many have already said, 12th fret is where anyone i've recorded with has pointed the mike
