Where would you suggest to get a real clean/crisp sounding sub bass? Any hints on making a standard sub bass sound cleaner and crisper?

Hey,

What exactly are you asking after? "Sub Bass" usually reffers to anything under 30Hz (or there-abouts) which you can't necesarily "hear" so much as "feel" - are you asking how to tighten this up?

Or are you asking about Sub-Woofer Monitors that will allow you to monitor the very bottom end of your mix more effectivly?

I'm referring to the sub bass sounds you hear in Hip Hop and R n' B beats. The bass that is very low, clean and crisp. Do they just use an ordinary bass and give it different effects. If so, what effects? The sub-bass sound I use now is off my keyboard which sounds alright but I'd like to make it sound cleaner and richer. Any suggestions on where to get a good sample or how to make my current sample better?

i make my own kick drums and and sub hits with Stomper Hyperion, a freeware drum synth that turns out some incredible drum hits.

i hate to givve away my secrets, but this one is just too good to keep hidden. goto www.lysator.liu.se/~zap/stomper/index2.html to find the free full version download.

if you know anything about oscillators and filters this program should come easy to you. just one thing to note, the program defaults to 22,050Hz sample rate... make sure you bump that up to 44,100Hz CD quality before you export.

enjoy!

Waves makes a pluggin that is called MAXX BASS that I use all the time for putting bottom end back into MP3's and the like. I also use it to extend the low end bass sound's you are talking about. It is very good on all audio, and also will keep that crisp attack you are talking about. It is a little spendy but worth every penny if you are in need of some kick butt bottom end.
