Macs with Reason 3.0

Hey all!

I'm using a (grossly underpowered) PC with a Line 6 Toneport UX2 for recording to Live lite 6. I use Reason 3.0 for my drum and keyboard tracks. Now here's the kicker... I'm buying a Mackbook Pro (just the meat and potatos one) in a few months for school. Does Reason work on Macs? And what's your opinion of Ableton Live?

Any thoughts would be welcome at this point

Ableton Live is more for a live DJ type set up. It can work as a DAW of sorts, but just barely. It is not a very intuitive program to learn or use and is grossly under powered and over rated for what it really does. If you are looking for doing just the loop based mixing and DJ set type stuff, it might work out alright but I don't often recommend it as a regular recording software.

As for using Reason with a Mac, here are the system requirements.

Mac OS

* G4 or G5 processor
* 256 MB RAM
* 2 GB free hard disk space
* CD-ROM drive
* Mac OS X 10.2 or later, 10.3 or later strongly recommended
* Monitor with 800x600 pixels resolution or better
* Recommended: MIDI keyboard with built-in MIDI interface, or MIDI keyboard and MIDI interface

Thanks for the info!

Is there any DAWs that work well with the UX2 and still sounds professional?

I believe you can use Garageband which is an Apple product and available for free download from their site. guitar Jim could tell you more about that. Hopefully he will stop by.

Otherwise I will have a look on KVR later or tomorrow and see if there are any good freebies out there for Mac.

Start here for GarageBand. search.info.apple.com/?se...mp;q=GarageBand

I don't know if you can simply install the 3.04 update as a full install or not. I was hoping Guitar Jim would stop by soon. He would know the answer on that one.
