So I'm in Banjo Center and they're playing the usual videos and such....plus the noise of people plucking/strumming/hitting things...very noisy.

A video comes on with Michael Schenker in it (not sure what the band incarnation was. Some screaming guy with long blond hair. Schenker still had the original old two-tone V, so it might have been a while ago. I kinda lost track after the Captain Nemo time). Anyway, the band and the screaming blond fella are knocking out a version of UFO's "Let it roll." Then comes the solo.
The whole place went completely quiet as fifty sets of eyes turned to watch the TVs. Amazing.
No-one quite plays like him.

The tone, the ability, the sheer musicality.
Genius.

Be thankful the crowd wasn't so inspired that they all decided to grab banjos and jam along..

That may have been The Scorpions, although Klaus Meine had more sandy colored hair. But I doubt that Micheal's older brother Rudolph would have allowed a UFO tune to be played. It may have been an incarnation of MSG, or Schenker - Pattison Summit.

I will lay money it was one of the various version of MSG, I could swear I remember poofy haired blond singer(s) with that band...I would highly doubt the scorps though, Klaus never went with that route.

Definitely not the Scorpions. Meine was always a bit folically challenged - hence the silly hats.

Possibly one of the MSG derivatives. I was a big fan up to, and including "Assault Attack" - then it all went a bit weird. I actually used to hang out in a musician's bar in London where Barden, and Chris Glenn used to go a lot. I know it wasn't Barden, and it definitely wasn't Graham Bonnet. The guy was very screamy, and the band seemed a tad heavier than I was used to. The singer almost sounded like Waxl Rose.

The guitar solo was just delightful. When I got back in my car I put in "Strangers in the night" and rocked out for a bit (for anyone who has never heard the UFO live album, try "Rock Bottom" for some of the best guitar playing ever recorded). Oh, the tone....

I agree that it is probably not the Scorpions as well. Indeed Klaus never really did have much for hair and it was on the darker sandy colored side.

As for Micheal himself, I came across a piece stating the bass player for MSG in late 2006 denounced and dissed Micheal for lackluster playing during a show in Japan were they have always been huge. And actually appologized to the crowd for the lousy show. He then walked off stage and handed in his resignation. Micheal has been in and out of treatment for alcohol so many time now I am sure he has all but given up. But he indeed rocked when he was playing with his little brother in the Scorps as well as in UFO.
