Well I broke down and bought Harbal. I can't wait to give it a shot. I hope it's as good as everyone makes it out to be. I figured I have nothing to lose, if I don't see a big difference in quality of my tracks then I can just take advantage of the 30-day money back guarantee deal.

Good on ya! You will love it, it's an indispensable application. Saves loads of time and gives better results than most any project studio would otherwise.

I tried Har-bal and returned it, I just didn't think it was worth the money.

Izotope Ozone for me is a far better product. It does many of the same EQ things plus includes all the other mastering tools. It is a bit more expensive of course.

heretic!

I never liked Ozone, I tried it a few times...HarBal does the trick for me every time, and very quickly.

Only here to see how quickly dB-Wan jumped on the thread title. Six minutes. You're a sick man.

I use harbal EQ functions and leave out the "air". I then run it through ozone for all of it's features minus the EQ.

CptTripps, can you offer reasons why you do that ? genuinely just wondering :)

Tripps, HarBal Air, in my opinion, is one of it's best features.

I think it might be the same as why some people like using the AIR function on Line 6 gear and some don't. I love HarBal and find that I maybe don't use the air function as often as I maybe should. I won't however use Ozone stuff other then their vinyl pluggin when needed. But then I have several other high end bundles with all that stuff already.

But ya, I'm curious too why your not using air at least partially.

Ozone is good for all the packages it has inside esp the harmonic exciter and the mastering reverb. I just chose Ozone over T-Racks, that pretty much does the same thing.

Well HarBal is also good as for it's harmonic balancing feature it offers. That saves me 2-3 hours of correcting EQ in just a few clicks. I never regret keeping it. Plus the product support team is way SUPERB.

Truly, I just use BOTH HarBal & Ozone in EVERY songs I master. Best combination ever.

Pretty much like ciinx said, I eq with harbal which makes balancing much easier and then I use Ozone for everything but eq, stereo spacing based on frequency range is a fantastic tool that I use often. But yeah, the reason why I do so is because I like the end result.

So a good combination would be to Harbalise the mix first for EQ and then run it through Ozone minus the EQ options??

Exactly. Works for me and the captain.

i did that for awhile, then i quit using ozone altogether....all i do is harbalize then limit with wavelab for my mastering....all that stereo-widening, harmonic exciting, and 'mastering' reverb, and multiband compression is a bunch of whoop-la that IMO does more damage than good, ESPICALLY if you don't fully understand what you're dooin to your audio. hell i'm only using Harbal v1.1....i never got around to upgrading! lol

Yeah, I used Ozone for a while years back though I never really liked the interface, it did a lot, but, HarBal antiquated it for me, I simply don't need it, I do limiting, EQing, exciting, widening and whatnot in WaveLab, then bring it into HarBal for the final treatment of spectrum balancing and "Air".

"Air" to me has grown to be damn near as cool as the visual spectrum balancing in HarBal, it is a very cool spacial effect.

Hmm! Strange wyd, in the last few mixes this couple of weeks i started to leave ozone out. Maybe just satisfied with the sound or whatever, or maybe the extras are just a little bit too much..

For Mclir, just don't stop experimenting..

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to figure out if I want to blow the cash on Ozone or not. I have a demo copy that I have messed with, but I think as someone else mentioned in this thread, it is doing more harm than good. I think I am going to stick with creating and recording our music as best as possible for demo's and when the time is right for the band to do something album wise we will go to a professional studio and mastering engineer to do the job right. I have been putting way too much energy into recording and the final product being perfect, and I should be directing more of it toward creating new music. I totally have a new respect for Recording and Mastering engineers though, hehe.

I have HarBal as well and its a great app. Only word of caution is to make adjustments sparingly and keep your eyes on the saturation levels.

I mainly master my tracks in WaveLab and I own all of the Waves plugs and some other outboard stuff. I always run the track once I'm done in Wavelab through HarBal just to see how it looks and to see if I need to make any minor adjustments then I do. Its been a great tool for me in that capacity.
