SYNC MADNESS!!!!

Well this is the first post i make in this forum, so i wanted to share some of the most exhausting things i've made in my career as an audio engineer, in the studio i work they have a 1990's old 10.5" X 2" 24 TK SONY Analog Tape recorder, wich they said they wanted to used in sync with the computer using protools, well the first thing i noticed is that protools works with MTC (MIDI Time Code) and this old analog monster uses LTC (Linear Time Code), somehow i managed to use a MOTU MIDI TIMEPIECE to make the conversion from LTC to MTC and viceversa, but the problem begins with the tape recorder, since this thing is like 20 years old its very hard to configure the parameters in order to make it work properly with SMPTE, so i spent an entire day reading the manual, learning all of the memory locations, and finding a way to make this thing play when protools sends the "play" signal, also i spent hours and hours setting the protools and the midi timepiece in order to work properly.
After an entire week of trial and error, i finally managed to make this thing work, when you hit the play button on the protools the tape automatically starts and the timecode display is in sync, easy??? in theory, but heeeeellll nooooooooo!!!! , i spent more hours in this thing that i could think of, anyway i just wanted to share the joy im feeling right now. By the way, if anyone wants to know the whole procedure i will be writting a tutorial soon . CHEERS!!!!!!

That is how I recorded for years! Tape machines have had sync for a long time. It is a matter of getting the hardware to talk with the software and vice versa. Try locking two tape machines and 6 hardware sequencers together for a real treat. Then tie that to a video deck, add a drum machine and your all good to go.

Yeap the problem here was mainly the convertion from ltc to mtc and mmc but if you are working with only ltc or only mtc you shouldnt have any problem.
