Imperfection Rules - "Anti - Pro Tools Movement"

I extracted that from an article about Pearl Jam last album. Very interesting and matches my beliefs.

----------

In keeping with the spontaneity Vedder brought to the sessions, nearly all of Riot Act was recorded live in the studio. Mistakes stayed. Sometimes, performances sound on the verge of falling apart. That stayed, too.

"This is definitely our anti-Pro Tools record," says drummer Matt Cameron, referring to the computer software that allows musicians to manipulate bits of audio endlessly. "To us, a song like 'Can't Keep' is proof that it's more interesting hearing musicians in a room playing hard, with the tempo fluctuating slightly as the band heats up. Perfection is boring."

depends what sorta music you're making...for a band like pearl jam a rough and ready take can be preferable to one thats better played but without the feeling...

Thats the best- since being perfect is impossible for my limited talents, if the pros slide a little and i stay the same, it closes the gap!

But then Pearl Jam is one of those bands that has to be anti-establishment in everything they do. They are so cliche' in their anti-cliche' stance...thinking it makes them trend setters or something...Quite frankly it bores me.

I like peral jams music but I can't stand vedder... it bugs me almost as much as Trent Reznor. Vedder seems only to do things that he knows will cause controversy and it pisses me off... Quite frankly, no one care his stand on things, they just want to hear him sing.

That said, favourite pearl jam song is their cover of Last kiss and my favourite Nirvana song (even though I don't like them much) is Under the bridge or whatever it's called.
