I know there is a Huge price difference in the two, but which SOUNDS better? An outboard effects rack or two, or a few plug-ins in you App?

depends on the effect you are talking about, and which actual models...the best plugin will sound better than a cheesy rack effect...all in all I think most a very comparible, dollar for dollar I think you get decent sound from either, the only ones I would say racks may give you a little better on is Reverb, Chorus, or spacial effects like those, cuz the CPU has to do A LOT of math to get those effects right and they can bog down slower systems.

Thats my two cents anyway.

Yeah, I've heard that Delay and Reverb and such should be handled by an outboard system. I recently bought a Phonics Reverb unit, not he best but I got 130 bucks taken off of it so that's not bad. I see what you're saying though and I guess it all just depends on a lot of things, like what effect, what brand, and blah. Thanks

If you have a place such as Music Go Round, or any used music gear place near by. Go look for any older Korg digital Reverb unit. They are Reverb and delay only, and do not sound half bad. the best is they are very clean, and have a nice warm colour to them. They are usually priced pretyy reasonable also.

compression is loads better on the rack side if you are willing to pay the money.

ya, collapse is totally right, compression is better run on the outboard units, once you are in the PC compression should only be used as final touches, not full-fledged compression.

If you have a big and powerful enough CPU, most others can be run as a plugin, the only things that make the rack units better is if your PC doesn't have the CPU power to run them like you want to.

Yeah I see. Personally for now I think I'm going to stick to a Rack though, Since I can use that for Recording and Live shows. I have a Music-Go-Round right down my street actually **Cool beans!** so I'll go down and see what they've got as far as reverb goes. Ooooh my KFMDM tickets just came in the mail. Yay

OOOOh, I wish KMFDM would come here. They haven't been in Minnesota in year's. the last time I saw them, I had to go to Chicago. They put on a awsome live show. so if you haven't seen them live I am sure you will like the show.

Yeah I haven't seen em live yet. just recently got into em, my ex-fiance was into em and I ordered the tickets as her birthday present. I like em though, I love industrial music, KFMDM, Pig, Wumpscut, VNV Nation. Ohh yeah :) Tool is coming here soon too. God I'm gonna be broke for a couple of weeks gotta pay cell phone bill, rent, just bought the kfmdm tickets, need new boots, and I gotta buy a couple tool tickets. Ah well, it'll be fun. This is why I'm getting paid anyway. :)
