What's the verdict on Phonic amps & speakers?

I'm looking to purchase a Phonic Power Pod 740D/SEM715 PA System from musiciansfriend.com for $399. Has anyone on this site heard about this portable PA or had any dealings with Phonic? Are there any pros/cons about phonic products?

I'll be using the et-up for a martial arts demonstration team that perfomrs to music. The music needs to be able to project ample sound at least 75 ft outdoors. Any advice would be very helpful

Welcome to HRC.

Any PA/speaker setup for $399 will be hard to get much out of regardless of brand. 75 feet isn't too terribly far, but you are not saying how many wayys it is, specs of speakers or anything like that.

This is taped music, correct? Not a live band? If it's taped then you don't have compression and such to worry about which is good.

What MA style are they performing, a real fighting style or some of that silly XMA stuff? I'm a green belt in Kenpo, a blue belt in Brazilian JiuJitsu and trained in Muay Thai as well.

Oh, and MF sucks, go to zZounds www.zzounds.com/a--884907

Thank for the welcome and the information. We perform Judo & Taekwondo mostly. The participants are mostly kids ranging from 8-16 years old.

The music will be played from a CD or mp3. Phonic claims that this unit is capable of ~ 200W/ch.

Here is the link: www.musiciansfriend.com/p...stem?sku=636503

If this wouldn't be a good unit, then what other ones in the $500 range would work?

Judo, cool, fun style...I've done a little Judo and TKD as well. TKD is good for shows and movies, it looks cool.

Anyway, the PA, 440 watts should be OK but might be a bit small, so you may be pushing the amp a bit. One thing that can help is making sure you get those speakers and stands at least at head level, maybe even a little bit higher to help projection. I'd shoot more for the 600 watt range myself...but you may be able to get by, it really depends on how loud it has to be at 75 feet.

Not sure what to make of Phonic's ratings, I mean 440 watts bridged is cool, but depending on the noise ratio, if it starts clipping half way up it's not much good...not saying it will, just saying it's possible.

I know a couple people here have Phonic stuff and have mixed opinions.
