Why can't I record from minidisc to my laptop?

Dear all,

I'm a newbie here and would appreciate your help.

Mine is a Dell Inspiron 9300, whose soundcard is Sigma Tel C-Major.

I've tried to transfer my minidisc content to my laptop by using a a 1/8" miniplug-to-miniplug cable. I plug one end of the 1/8" miniplug into the speaker out jack, and plug the other end into the "line in" jack on the minidisc recorder.

However, my Cool Edit didn't recognize any sound when it records.

Do you think there is a problem with my soundcard?

My sincere thanks,

You have it backwards. If you are recording the audio from the minidisc to the pc you should have the plug on the minidisc in a speaker ot line out and on the PC it should be the line in or mic in.

You have it hooked up backwards. You should be coming from the speaker out jack on the minidisc into the line in on the laptop.
