Alright, I'm getting rid of my SB Audigy and replacing it with a better audio card. I've heard that M-Audio makes good stuff. I am willing to spend about 200 On a card. I want multiple Ins and Outs. Any suggestions on cards that fit this description?

Multiple ins and outs for under $200? If you find a good one let me know cuz I am card shopping right now and the best I can find is a 4 in 4 out card w/o S/PDIF for $250.

If you want to spend $200 or less I suggest you go to some used gear places, cuz you won't find it new. Some 2 in 2 out card exist for $200 or less, but not multi in and out...

Well 250 isn't really bad either. 4in/4out Is about what I'll be recording anyway, I can always Mix Drums down to one single track. Anyway, any suggestions? Thanks guys

No,mix your drums down to two tracks, keep the stereo image that way...

Anyway, I am looking at the MAudio USB breakout boxes, and some others.

You can go with the Delta 44 for a little less money. But I would opt for the AudioSport Quatro/USB. I may end up switching to the same card. I allready have the Delta 44 and have looked at adding the Omni I/O for a little more freedom form having to redo my setting's for differant app's.

But for the money, the Quatro USB is the best choice. 0 latency monitering is worth it, my Delta does it and I am happy as a pig about that.

what I meant by the drum comment is that I can mic the drums and send the mic signals into a small mixer, and run the outs of that mixer into a stereo channel on my main console, that can save a couple ins right? That's probably better off in a new topic though. Anywhoo, the Delta 44 looks nice, as do those USB things. Guess I'll need to go to the store and see whats going on. Just to let you all know I'm getting a copy of Sonar 5.0 soon for free, so I have a bit more money to spend on a soundcard that'll do multitrack recording. I think I need a new mixer though too. But That can be taken care of later. Um one last question, Is recording Directly into the soundcard a good idea or bad idea? Alright, well I need some sleep, I'm sick and I gotta go to work in the morning :( Goodnight everyone, and THANKS!

Yes, you can mixdown drums to a stereo pair and have two other ins to use for guitar and bass, or vox or whatever, it is a pretty common practice.

And that's the one thing I don't think is necessary on the sound card is those mic pres as I don't think pluging a mic directly into the sound card is a good idea, because if you want to loop in compression and/or reverb or anything else, you are better off sending to a mixer and to the sound card from there.

That is why I am trying to find a card with no mic pres hoping it will cost a little less, the delta 44 is looking good, as I have S/PDIF on my surround sound card, tso the delta 44 will do just what I want and nothing extra...hmmmm...

It's for DAT machine interfacing...it's a digital hookup (Sony/Philips Digital InterFace) It looks like a typical stereo RCA jack, but it transmits digital data, I use it a lot, some folks don't.

Just a quick note here. If you go with the Delta 44, and I do recomend it highly. You can alway's add the Omni I/O later, and that will give you more input and output choice's. It will also give you insert point's and a few other goodie's I forget about. And it use's the same interface card as the 44 or the 66, so you won't have to change anything. I personally am thinking of going that route, as I already have a Delta 44 in my settup.

Yeah I've been looking at the Delta's a bit and they seem like they'd be nice.I have no use for S/PDIF really since I don't use DAT or anything. Yeah... I'm seriously gonna look into that Delta 44
