Does anyone here know how to get rid of the buzz an amp gives off when it is distorted. ive been playing for years and know it has gotten(?) on my last nerve. i have the marshall MG30DFX. It makes it impossible for me to record.

try a new cable maybe? That has helped a little with buzzing for me. Aside from that, I really don't have any idea

You could try gating the input, depending on your playing style .

Yeah Loki, that trick works ok, as long as it's dealing with nothing to drawn-out... works better for choppy rhythms, as apposed to singing leads, which the gate may tend to flutter/breath at the end of .

Make sure you have your amp properly grounded, and make sure there are no motors, or dimmers near the amp. 60 cycle hum is a killer.

You set a threshold of the input level to be reached before it allows the input to pass into the software . Just like a real gate, but with audio . : )

What type of guitar are you using? If its a Srat style or a single coil pickup there is very little that can be done outside of copper shielding the pickup cavity and even that is only going to do so much. The gate trick that Hue suggested is a great idea but you have to play with the setting to keep if from sounding choppy. I would try a combination of the suggestions posted here.

Hey, brother, I don't know if you've ever tried one of these, but I LOVE mine. Probably the best pedal I've ever used, really.

BTW, it's ten dollars cheaper on ZZsounds than it is at any of big stores.

Just a thought.

I've had a Boss NS2 for about 13 years or so and its probably my most valueable pedal. Plus it doubles as a power supply for your other pedals. And you just loop all of your noisy effects in its send/return loop. It works great and I'd recommend it to anyone.

But also remember that a noise gate is kind of a band-aid fix for hum. You can also try to fix the hum at its source like TallChap suggested. Maybe even take your guitar to a tech to make sure its properly shielded, although a guitar with humbuckers like that Ibanez Iceman shouldn't be too succeptible to hum.

Don't be afraid to turn down the distortion either. More distortion = more noise and more mud.

I've used some pretty expensive gating rigs and the NS-2 is right smack up there with some of the best.

One thing I don't know if it was mentioned or not is to try a power conditioner. It really works wonders even for guitar amps.

I've been having the same problem as you. I've tried noise gates wich seem to help with the hissing and background noise...but the more i turn up the gain the more that humming or buzzing noise gets. Even if I turn the guitar volume down the noise is still there. I still can't figure out how to get rid of it. The only thing I haven't really tried is to upgrade all of my cables with high end ones.

If you ever find a solution..please post it!!
