Hi folks , just new to the forum today , I need some advice , my set up is as follows , a macbook pro running logic pro , a presonus firepod ,and a rode nt2-a microphone.
I have tried using my live mixer which is a midas venice 160, with this setup, along with dbx 1066 compressor , but i cant seem to get the sound nice on both vocals and guitars, it sounds ok , but not like ive heard from other studios, would it be better if i bought a good firewire mixer with all the features of a full desk instead of the presonus firepod, (i notice some firewire mixers are cheaper than the firewire interfaces with no mixing capabilities, am i missing something or what?) why would someone buy just an interface when they could have a mixer for the same money?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Robin.

If the mixer is splitting up the signal into seperate tracks per channel then I would also go mixer.

I have a lalya24 which is older and does not have pre's built in. I bought an art 16channel mixer that has seperate outs for tracks 1-8 and a summed stereo out for 9-16. I like this setup alot and love the mixer control for doing drum tacks.

Maybe one reason for firepod over mixer would be portability. A laptop and a firepod are some easy toting.
