M-Audio drivers for Windows Vista

I was very happy to learn that M-Audio does indeed have Vista-compatible drivers for most of their interfaces. The reason that I couldn't find them before was because a) they're beta drivers and you have to check a box to see them on M-Audio's website, and b) they don't call them "Vista drivers", they call them "64-bit drivers". They've actually been around since April of '05.

So rejoice, M-Audio users who are stepping into the great unknown by going to Vista.

I'm taking this step myself. My Dell arrives on Monday :D

According to M-Audio, the 64 bit driver isn't compatible with Vista, they are for the 64 bit version of XP. There is still no driver update for the Delta series either and the XP drivers definitley don't work properly with Vista. As far as I can tell they no Vista drivers at all for any of their products.

Just as with XP there is also a 32 bit & a 64 bit version as well.

Honestly the only company that looked ahead at the Vista launch was Cakewalk. I know they worked side by side with MS to work through the 64 bit and Vista problems with audio software and hardware. I think if I am not mistaken their hardware side kick Edirol will release if not already released Vista drivers. I don't understand it but I would be guessing most hardware and software waited to see if Vista was going to be a fast or slow mover. Then they will decide whether to port sooner or later.

Well since at least Dell and HP (and who knows what other big retailers) only offer Vista for an OS option, I can't imagine that its going to be anything less than a considerable percentage of customers' operating systems by mid-year.

I've been reading everything I can about M-Audio and Vista, and you're right that M-Audio isn't the only company to drag their feet for Vista compatibility. I found one forum thread at audioforum.com where they're tracking over 24 pro audio retailers, and only 2 or 3 actually have Vista compatible drivers available.

My Delta44 has been an awesome card for me. Just perfect for my needs, and rock-solid to boot. I really hate to give it up but when it comes down to it, its no good to me if its sitting in my cabinets uninstalled due to lack of compatibility.

I'll give everything a try that I can towards the goal of getting it up and running, including dual-booting XP and Vista, trying the 64-bit drivers, trying the default MS drivers, wrappers, etc. But I think that the end result is me reluctantly selling a very capable and stable card because of M-Audio taking a "wait and see" attitude towards an operating system that is, in all probablity, going to become the de-facto standard in the PC world within the next several months. It seems like it would have been a wise investment of development hours to have Vista drivers for ALL of their products months before the release of Vista. Its not like they didnt see the release coming.

I like the attitude that Cakewalk has taken. They've been gearing up for this release from day 1. But chrissakes, I don't want to spend another $1000 on new hardware and software after spending $1000 on a new computer (Cubase has no intention of updating SE for Vista compatibility either).

I just really dont like how I was herded into the Vista world just because I wanted a Dell. And now I really don't like how I'm going to get herded into another brand of audio interface because nobody at MAudio thought it was important to have the proper drivers ready for what has been a very visible ramp-up for a new OS release by the world's biggest software company. They act like they didnt see it coming.

Hats off to Cakewalk for handling it like everybody else should have, but mysteriously didnt.

OK enough venting. For now at least.

Easy solutions to that problem are to either build a pc from scratch, or get your dell pc, and wipe the drive and install xp or something else onto it.

I'm hoping that a dual-boot is possible. I'm not sure what to expect from trying to install XP32 on a 64-bit machine tho.

Echo released vista32 drivers but is still working on vista64 drivers. Odd thing is, they have drivers for xp64 and server2003 64bit. I was really hoping to try this out once I upgraded.

That's kinda funny...I mean, how many pro audio workstations do you think are running Win Server 2003 x64?

Yet Vista is destined to be pretty popular, and nobody has squat ready for its release.

I hear that, got a nice Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and a Vista coupon ready to go, I will not be upgrading until I at least have hardware drivers though.
