Guys Guys Guys!!

Where to start. OK, first up, to those who posted in the other thread I setup, gotta say again - a big thanks for your feedback and advice. The song is now finished (I hope!) and alas, is up for download and review.

NOW, there is another TWO songs up there. I must confess NOT to having recorded these - we went into a local studio and had em recorded with us doing a whole lot of the mixing together with the studio engineer....I think, the studio's mic's, setup and general better gear than mine IS apparent tho I must say, this was at the request of the band that we tried it. Twas good but thanks to the help of SOOOOO MANY people on here, I Know my own mixes arent a million miles off what the studio has done.

I'll say no more. I'll pass you the link, feel free to download, listen, comment and enjoy....the track I done is track 1 (Dharma) tracks 2 and 3 were recorded in our local recording studio....wasnt a big session - all done in 6 hours and that is from steppin in the door to walking out !!!

So, not bad I think.

All the best and I hope ye like our 2007 demo!

Cheers

Coco

All good ones Coco! I'd say the main difference between your mix and the studio recorded tracks is the drums, mainly that the drums stand out better, other than that I think your mixes stand up well against the studio, good job!

Cheers OldDog!

Aye, the drums are the big thing for me and I reckon, I have a fair bit to learn on proper drum mic'ing for sure!!

Alas, its gonna take me some time but , with time, patience and experience (and a good deal more questions at the good people of HRC), I HOPE to get there one day!!

Cheers for yer comments Dan and yer time as always ... always a pleasure to hear from ya my man!

All the best

Coco.

Yep, I gotta agree that your mixes stand up well next to these. The drums of course probably sound a wee bit better due to the room and the mic's I would guess. The night before the vocals start out a little too out front for my taste really, but that is just my taste. They mellow out as the tune moves on. Nice capture of the guitars as well. Nice tuen by the way, liked it.

Velocity. Interesting touch on the vocal on that one. Again, some parts are a little to up front, but take it with a grain of salt. Nice rockin tune for sure. And you guys over there just love to pan that stuff for fun don't ya? During the lead bit into the ending the right channel seems a bit of drums only as the guitar is panned way hard left. Just my humble opinion on that one as well.

Otherwise a couple of rocking DMR tunes again my friend.

Cheers Noize..aye, The drums stick out to me as well..matched pair of condensers and an AKG in the bass drum...4 mics in total (57 on snare).

I use my trusty 58 with the grilles unscrewed for bass drum and snare/hat with 1 Behri B1 as an overhead then do the auld double tracked condenser track back in Cubase....

Indeed, the pannin is hard there tho the engineer kinda took the rains...proves ma point that we're sometimes best to do this ourselves!! It was good however, but, I like doing the job....gives full control.

Think yer spot on with those comments tho...also, cant hear my guitar solo well in Velocity - thats nae good :-( !! But, aye, was fun indeed! Think on the balance, Night Before is a better recording...Velocity, is a tad muddy on the right as ye say...also,bass is too low!

Ach, I'll be fostex'in and cubasing again from now on....

Cheers buddy - your comments ALWAYS welcome

P.S. Im gettin th files on a DVD so I Can remix away! WOOOOT WOOOOT...

the night before: i think the snares and hats sound nice. there's something up with the guitars, i can't really put my finger on it though (maybe too upfront?). Backup vocals (oohs) could maybe be boosted a bit (less panning too). Kick has good punch, but is a bit buried, it seems. Yeah, I echo noize on the panning remarks. But overall, I'd say your other mix stands up well in comparison to this one. Nice tune.

Velocity,
Hmmm, vocals are kinda out front. Never been a fan of the distorted vocal effect personnaly (on the hook), but that's just me. Panning on the intro... ooohwee. Snares sound good again. I think bass is cool. But yeah, these are some rocking songs. Sorry if any of the above comments come off harsh, I'm at work and just typing thoughts as they come.

Out of curiousity, what is the des moines riot in reference to?
