Nearfield Monitors

Guys and Dolls...

As most of you know I have been downsizing my studio to more spatially and financially equal my usage...

I just today went to my buddy ben, who owns a local Music Go Round to look for some nearfields to replace the 4206 JBL's I am selling. Something smaller and active so I don't need a separate amp.

I took home a pair of $150 Samsos Resolv 40a Actives with 25 watts each side, with a cute little woofer (4" is kinda "cute") and a 1" silk done tweeter.

The sound is quite impressive for the components within. Decent bass response. I had to remix some of the ringtones I recently made seeing how the last speakers seriously goofed the bass response, thru these Samsons they were very bass heavy.

There is also a Resolv series powered subwoofer too, which given how impressed I am right now, I may look into if the 4" woofer start bugging me.

Here are the 50a speakers, one step up if anyone is interested www.homerecordingconnecti...erence+Monitors slightly bigger woofer and more power. With the 40a's I am personally running these at around 1 1/2 out of 10 on the volume knob in normal use...pretty good power.

Not really sure, haven't cug into the docs much yet, just the sound. Pretty damn impressive for a littrle 4" woofer. Small footprint, pretty big sound...

Now I just gotta dump these JBL's and the isolation stands and I'll be good to go...

Well, once Noize2u gets off his *** and picks up this damn desk so I can move all my fighting gear back in to my old studio room...

And don't get me wrong, these are clearly not the be-all-end-all perfect nearfields, my JBL's are better (but unpowered and bigger) but they are some of the best I have heard for the size and price.

Oooh, , those are purdy...

I have 4 inchers (cheap ones...), and I'm actually a little scared of the bass response. They're ported at the back, and the bass is quite hefty.
Still getting used to them.
I'll rough mix in the 'phones, and then open up and listen on the monitors, and everything goes 'Dub.'

Doh!

Really takes some readjusting of technique.
Have fun with those Samson fours.
