HELLLLPP Sonar 4 Producer

I have been using the program for well over a year and until now have had very few problems. While working on a project I recently experienced a "dropout" and then sonar froze. Now whenever I open this particular project sonar will shut it's self down. I attend school with a major in Electronics and a minor in Computer technologies. I cannot figure out why this is happening, it will open some pre-existing projects fine, but some will cause it to freeze up. drop-out, or both. I have tried re-installing my Interface (M-Audio FireWire Solo) deleting plug-ins (those which I had just recently installed and used in the problem project) and editing my system registry. The problem occured exactly when I inserted a plug-in (MDA dither). AT first my Auturia MiniMoog plug-in stopped working in the project, and then it froze. ALl I can think of now is to systematically remove plug-ins on my system, and if that fails, back-up and reformat, and then install plug-ins one by one until i find out if they are even the problem. Any suggestion, help... anything will be appreciated!

Did you try copying your project files to another location, then reinstalling Sonar?
I've had similar stuff happen, and that usually does it.
Most of the time it was due to some weird Windows background service.

Hi Justin, sorry for the late reply here. I have been using Cakewalk products from the very beginning and have only seen that problem twice. And yes, both times it was caused by either a pluggin that malfunctioned do to a bad install of it, or an update/upgrade that went haywire with either a software pluggin or hardware driver that didn't do well. All were found by the means you mentioned above, process of elimination. I know it isn't what you were hoping to hear but it is the probable culprit seeing as it is happening with more then just the one file.

It is possible though that your audio data base for the project had been corrupted and that caused the problem as well. I have heard issue's with virus or trojan infestation that can cause a file corruption like that as well.

But I would try JF's solution first as it is entirely possible to cure it that way as well as something may have been corrupted in Sonar as well.

Ok, so I reformatted and reinstalled Sonar 4 and no plug-ins. Treid to open the project just to view the midi data, and the same thing is happening. wtf?

Justin, can you save one of the projects as a bundle file then zip it and email it to me. Use the email in my post here just below. I can run a DrWatson while I open the project and see if there is anything corrupted in it. It almost sounds like the project or projects have been corrupted some how. Not sure on that though.

Also, just for kicks try running a virus scan on just the project files if you have a scanner that will do that. Otherwise I usually run a scan on anything I get before I open it.

Noize, i can't save it as a bundle because I cannot open the project file. The only thing I could send is the Sonar 4 project file. I have ran a scan as well as used the audio I had used before, in a new project in which I am attempting to re-create the original project which is the problem. I am experiencing some new problems though however.... everything in the project is fine except the intro, which was originally a seperate project, rendered into a wave which I imported into the new project. For the entire duration of this imported wave I get zippering and stuttering until midi data comes in, and then it works fine, as well as when I export or render the whole project..... it reminds me of older days using different audio files with different sample rates....... odd?

the last part was wrong.. when I render the project it comes out fine, only when i try to listen to the whole project in Sonar does the intro audio zipper, i'm going to try solo'in the audio and see what happens

Well if the project file is to big for regular email I can shoot you my gmail address and you can email the entire project there. Unless of course you have webspace you can upload the project to.

I have seen the zippering before, but not since Sonar 4. It was I believe in my case something to do with some automation I had done and then undone. But for some reason it left artifacts. In your case though if it is happening to multiple projects I am not sure that would be the case.
