State o' the Union

I feel I have to listen to these speeches, but damn it's painful...all the people in that room are people that were picke don as kids, the odd ducks or outcasts that are now rich and run the world. It shows how stupidly childish they are when the dems applaud something, repub's another...

Bush strokes the dems by his "gracious" comments "madam speaker" the new psycho leftie speaker of the house, congradulates the dems on their majority and all that which he hated saying, but politics is all acting anyway, so what the hell.

After anything he says somebody stands up and applauds for 10 minutes...they zoom in on Ted Kennedy sleeping again, McCain looked like he was too...Madam Speaker is up there are smiles just loving her new celebrity status...

I dunno why, but I feel I have to watch them though...

We all should watch so that we know what's going on in our country. Of course, I didn't watch...

I've seen the "highlights" on the news. At least it'll give all of the talk radio entertainers something to talk about for a few days.

Thats why I watch, I feel even though it's staged and phony, it's the closest any common citizens will get.

You are right though, good fodder for talk show hosts.

I completely forgot about it. normally I watch...but yeah the charade gets a little old... not as bad as the rebuttals which use dramtic lighting and camera movements...

I watched it, in spite of the worries that I thought I would just get upset. Mostly I just laughed at the language of the speak (simple, direct and dumb it down). The only time I got upset was when he said we needed to support Darfur, as from what I've seen, he hasn't lifted a finger to help Darfur. I felt like he was just using it just because it's kinda like the popular cause du jour. Basically I was offended.

As for the "leftie speaker". She's actually represents San Francisco, though not my district (I got Lantos). I'm a pretty big fan of hers even though she's a bit pragmatic for my taste sometimes. I gotta says she's heaps better than "the hammer" though.

I am sick of hearing how much we have to help everybody else...I sooooooo wish somebody would step up and start helping the problems inside our own country and quite bossing everybody else around and trying to fix the world...while being a superpower does come with some responsibilities of that nature, I don't think we need to do it to the degree we have, or the way we have. I am not against helping others that ask for it and want it, but it should be a matter of priorities as well.

As far as Nancy Pelosi goes, I am sure it comes as no surprise I agree with virtually nothing she stands for...or, maybe put better I don't agree with her proposed ideas of how to do anything...

I mean, of course we all want everybody to have access to health care, stop terrorism, cut taxes, etc etc etc...but I don't agree with her ideas of how to do any of it.

I can understand where you're coming from in this first statement. I don't always agree, but I think it's a case by case basis. But if that's how you feel, I can respect that, but don't go around saying we need to help Darfur just to get an applause, if you know full well you're not going to do anything to help. To me that's offensive.

And as far as Pelosi goes, well, yeah it's not a surprise, and I don't think there's much I could say to cure you either...

hehehe

As far as helping people, firts we have to determine if they WANT our help or if we are forcing help on them, and secondly if it WILL help or is just a money pit for the sake of looking good.

You guys watched that lying goon BUTCHER the English language, when the NHL skills contest was on??? ARE YOU CRAZY???
Bleh!

That was one thing I actually liked about Bill Clinton. He could b.s all day long, but he did it so well, with so much grace and charm, everyone still felt kinda good about it, even though you knew he was lying through his teeth. :) I can't help but admire that a little.

I watched it, sometimes he looks like a deer in headlights.

bush only has that deer in headlights look, i think, when he's talking to people without notes. i think he's a fine speechmaker. he modulates his voice, creates a sense of drama, etc. he is a perfect speech robot in many ways. people just need to program him, and off he goes.

You know, that's the thing that's always killed me about him. Every time I watch him talk, I can't help but think of the mayor in "Blazing Saddles". You know, signing everything in front of him, the whole paddle ball "Why do I always get the broke one!!??" thing.. He-he....
I mean, am I just full of myself, or is this guy really just legitimately DUMB? As in, not very quick witted? Can't really seem to think for himself? Doesn't really seem to have a grasp on foreign policy, let alone any clue to the subtleties of foreign cultures?? It's like giving the village idiot a really big hammer and watching him try to beat a square block into the round hole....."But...he comes from a good family and he talks like a good ol' boy!"
That's not meant to be a slam to Republicans, 'cause I don't toe either party line, myself. (I thought Kerry to be a hopeless jackass, too, with a slight edge in IQ)
It just blows my mind that this man ever made it to the presidency, let alone TWICE?? On what? A homey accent and family connections?

Jeeezus....

(sorry if I P.O'd any Bush fan-boys, I'm just not that political....)

look back at the bush/kerry debates when kerry told bush about some wood processing plants that he said bush owned, if that wasn't quick witted I dunno what is, that was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a debate since the vice presidential debates of the Perot election year...

Good old Perot and his narcoleptic VP candidate!
And to think, I actually voted for Ross that year...THE SHAME...

that was Bush ...and it actually was intended to be funny... and make Kerry look even dumber...

Kerry: The president got $84 from a timber company that owns, and he's counted as a small business. Dick Cheney's counted as a small business. That's how they do things. That's just not right.
Bush: I own a timber company? That's news to me. Want to buy some wood?

That was so funny, embarrassed for him? I laughed my *** off, that timid, under his breath way he said it was a riot! I found it one of the best ad lib things he's ever said.

he was so timid! you could see the gears turning as he tried to come up with a response. also, in telling the joke he implicitly accepts the proposition that he owns the company. it just struck me as something a first grader might say.

I didn't get to see it till today. Nice indeed it is. Had to refresh though as when talking to dB on the phone I was still looking at blue divider lines. But got it straight now and its back to black and gray.
