Ok so i use a firepod with Sonar 5 PE. i like the firepod, i like the pre-amps and the amount of them, but the one thing i do not like is the quality of the firepod itself. Its very, cheap feeling and ive had 1/4in cables actually get stuck in the firepod, making me have to open it up and pry it it out.
Now im happy with it so far, i actually love it and i plan to stick with presonus stuff becuase i like this unit and my HP4 so much. but i was wondering is anybody had used or has a FireStudio. Im not sure i understand the difference between the two other then the cost. I was wondering if the Firestudio is made with more care then the firepod. anybody know?

Nope, there is a huge difference between the two units. The Firestudio runs a higher grade pre amp, has 8 channels of ADAT ligthpipe i/o, s/pdif i/o, midi i/o and word clock i/o. it also has 2 separate insert send/return channels, 2 channels of RCA aux input and is ported for a directly connected remote control unit. Can't say it is made with more care, just more goodies.

My personal opinion and choice would be a unit from MOTU. If you want a solid durable healthy feeling bit of gear that is all they make.

IF you want to stay close to what you have as far as ease of use and straight forward interface the 8 Pre is a killer unit for firewire. www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/8pre

Its not as cheaply priced as the Presonus, but its not a whole lot more. And the build quality is far above the rest of the competition. I've installed many of their units in other places and the gear is top notch.

How are the mic pre's compared to the presonus ones you think? i really like the ones in the presonus, very transparent.it would work with sonar 5 pe right? i dont see why not. has anyone else here used that MOTU 8pre?

The mic pre's are in my opinion a little bit better then the Presonus. Although I really like the Presonus units as well MOTU has a much longer reputation behind them building digital gear. I know a few people who are still using some of their original gear from MOTU with only software and driver updates. None have had to service the gear either which is a big plus in my book.
