I just got a Behringer Tube Ultragain. Should I run Mic --> Untrgain ---> Delta, or Mic ---> Untragain ---> Mixer ---> delta?

The less pieces of gear in the signal chain the better. So your first option is the best. But if you need the routing then by all means put the mixer in the chain as well.

yeah that's what I figured. Don't need the routing, as I got this to fatten up the vocals. It's pretty sexy so far, I just turned it on.

Since it's tube I'll probably have to leave it on for an hour or so to let the tube warm up to get the best sound outta it huh?

Kind of: it depends on the room temperature, how old the tube is, how hot you're gonna be running it, etc.

Which one did you get? The standalone or the rackmount with 2 channels. I have two of the rackmounts, one of the studio's in town we were recording at had em in a box and he sold em both to me for $100!! I like em, what you think so far.

I got the rackmount one. I like it so far, better than the pres in my phonics mixer... but I don't really notice any different when using the tube section yet...

Really? When I cranked the warmth knob for my kick I noticed quite a difference.

well so far all i've used it for is tracking vocals... and crankign the tube knbo hasn't really done much. i'll give it a try later to be sure... i am going to put some different tubes in it though, just cause i like modding my stuff.

hey cpt - I am running it as an external unit from the pc now, and I am not noticing any change in the sound when I tweak the warmth knob. When i run the thing so hot it starts to clip then I get some distortion, but the warmth knob doesn't seem to be really doing anything. I'm going out of my delta 3 and four to the line level ins of the behri, then out of the behri to in 3 and four of the delta. I'l then play like a midi part, set the output of that track to use out 3, and then arm an audio track to record the signal from in 3, so that it gets the loop. So far all it does is convert the midi to audio for me hehe, which is cool, but it doesn't really change the sound. Any tips on what i'm doing wrong?

OK so I just tried the same thing with a drum loop rather than a midi loop, and while the preamp did change the sound (sounded a lot less sterile) the sound was consistent whether or not i had the warmth control cranked or not.

Sorry, I didn't even check this one. I use it on just snare, kick and OH's. The kick and snare are very pronounced to my ears when tweaking it and the OH's warm up the toms just a tad. Never tried it on vocals though, I have that K2 tube mic that I run through the ART tube pre-amp (V3) for vocals.

You don't notice it on either channel? Hmmm, I have 5" monitors and you can't hear the difference much on them, now when I put on my bose headphones the warmth knob is like night and day to me.

I noticed a wee bit of difference when i tweak the volume knob as high as it can go without clipping, and then tweak the warmth knob. Not a real big difference, but it's there. Hmmm. I'll post up the loop with it clean, midly warm, then full on warm and see if anyone can hear the difference, or if it's just me
