How do you go about doing an echo effect to match the beat of whatever your doing..

lets say a rap track, how would i go about making the last word of the rap,.. echo about 3 times?

is that delay? reverb? and how would i go about making it sound like that?

i'm using pro tools so if u can tell me where to go to it would definitley be helpful.

I can't begin to tell you were to go in PT as I don't use it. But it should be a delay effect and I would hope to god they at least included one with the PT package. If not shame on them. But find the delay pluggin and it should hopefully have a sync option that will lock it to the BPM of the project your working on. At very least it should allow you to specify the BPM you would like the delay at. Then you simply tweak the delay to echo as long or short as you want and your good to go.

Otherwise there are formula's for finding the delay frequancy to use to match a BPM in a song.

The trick is finding the amount of time in milliseconds between the beats. Then you adjust your delay time based on that knowledge. If your song has a tempo of 120 bpm, then you know that there are 500 milliseconds (half a second) between each beat. If you know the exact tempo of your song, it's simple math to set the delay effects.

You need to automate the pluggin to come on for just that one word. That or have the word on its own track and apply the delay there.

PT should have an automate function either in the pluggin interface itself or a record automation track. You simply set your start time near the place you want to have the echo on and arm to record automation on that track, then start recording and hit the pluggin on exactly when you need the echo and off when you want it off. Stop the record and it should be set to playback your on and off commands.

In Sonar I simply write in an event like that in about 5 seconds. I can as ell do it the hard way. I would imagine PT should have the same function's.
