I have 6 ins/outs to work with between my two sound cards, and a UB2442fxpro mixer to... well, to mix with . My question is this: should I, upon folding back the outputs of the soundcard into the mixer for monitoring, have them go to the channels of that mixer that have direct outs and route those direct outs to each channel of my surround amp/speakers for mixing ? OR is this something I would be better off doing with the subouts of the UB ?
Hmmmm...
Perhaps I should reword that:
What's the best monitoring solution for mixing of a 5.1 format ?

Dec 07, 2006 11:52 am I personally take surround outputs and go straight to the amp/speakers and do all the mixing in my software.

Dec 07, 2006 12:07 pm How do you route them to your 5.1 amp/speakers ? Are you using a s/pdif that provides that option ? My amp/speakers inputs don't have that option... strictly analogue . I understand that one must mix in the software 5.1, but isn't that something you would want to be able to monitor 'directly', as the mix is put together ?
btw, The new av friggin' rocks !
Dec 07, 2006 12:13 pm depends on the setup, some speaker sets of the coax digital, some have the optical, some just have their own analog input on each...personally, my card has oan optical output that goes into an optical input on a stereo 5.1 reciever. Not the pro setup, but it works...that setup is also changing as I downsize.

Got'cha, mine has the analogue ins for each speaker-out, with the option of sterio, 2.1, and a couple of aux's .

Dec 07, 2006 03:14 pm Alright, here's what I'm considering... if anyone sees anything wrong with this, please let me know... this routing stuff can get a bit dizzying .
UB2442fxpro mixer :
Delta out 1-> UB Ch1 D/O-> Amp-Front Left
Delta out 2-> UB Ch2 D/O-> Amp-Front Right
Delta out 3-> UB Ch3 D/O-> Amp-Rear Left
Delta out 4-> UB Ch4 D/O-> Amp-Rear Right
AP out L-> UB Ch5 D/O-> Amp-Center
AP out R-> UB Ch6 D/O-> Amp-Sub(.1)
I'll have to disable the outputs of channels 1-6 to have the input exit immediately at the direct out, and into the respective amp input . The remaining channels(7-16) will be used for input devices, and routed to subouts 1-4, which in turn are routed into the Delta44's ins for recording, and monitored through an auxiliary sterio input of the amp through the main outs of the UB . That way I wont have to plug and unplug stuff to go from recording-mode, to mixing-mode... just have to tell the Behri to send it out the mains for input monitoring when recording .
Whatch'a think ?
