I've finally managed to get some gear for recording. I'm using the Rode NT1a with the TonePort ux1 and a 48v phantom power supply. I'm recording with Guitar Pro3. I can't seem to get it to record vocals. I'm seeing the input on the monitor, but no recording. Anyone have an idea of how I may need to change settings? Thanks.

In your software, you'll have to 'arm' the track, or , tell the software that you want the incoming signal to get recorded into a specific track. The manual / help should have something about it.

Also, if you have a built-in soundcard, then you'll have to tell GP3 to use the toneport as an input, instead of your inputs on the built-in soundcard.

You may want to leave the built-in active, so you can output the stereo signals, but you will need to select it in your software as a input device.

I've not seen GP3, so I'm just winging it.

I armed the tracks, and I have GP3 set to receive the tone port as the input. I was doing some recording with guitar earlier, and I'm wondering if you have to make some sort of change to GP3 to record vocals. I can definitely see the sound input, but when I arm the track and record, I get no peaks on the track. I don't need a fancy sound card if i'm using tone port right? It acts as the card?

yep, the ux1 is the sound interface. that's weird, you can record guitar, but not when you're using vocals.

You say you're getting signal in the software? That's got me baffled. I would thing the software wouldn't care where the signal is coming from, only that it's getting into the computer.

I could see that maybe something needs changing to get signal into the ux1, either line in, or mic in. Maybe a switch for line or mic. But if you're getting signal into the computer, then it's got to be something after the ux1.

I'm out of ideas, hopefully someone else can shed some light on this, as i'm stumped.

Yeh, I set the tone port to mic setting and i'm getting an input on the software but it's like the software won't record that input. You've been a great help still though. You got me understanding better how it all works. I'll try some more and see what I can come up with. Thanks.

I'm leaning towards a setting was changed in the software that you didn't intend, or didn't know changed. Certainly has happened to me a few times.

"why isn't this working? everything is the same! . . . doh!, i switched this dohicky, not thinking it would change the widget."

heh, i should be a screenwriter =).

good luck, hopefully it's something easy and free!

So you can see the input signal in both the toneport panel and in GP3? If it is reaching the GP3 meter then it should be hitting the track as well.
Are you trying to record a stereo or mono track? If the panning is off to one side in GP3 you will still see the meters but you may not get the sound to the track as the pan is on the wrong side.

im sort of lost what you mean when you see it, but maybe a few general suggestions on some minor things i know we all have missed at least once:

phantom power on? make sure it is with the rode you need the extra powerr to power the gold diaphram in the mic.

Make sure you track is switched to record from the input your using,if its armed to record from input 1, but your using input 2 you wont get anything. ive done that many-a-times.

When you record your guitar were you going direct? or were you using the same Rode nt1-a (nice mic by the way) if you were using the rode to record the guiar as well, try increasing on the pre-amp.

pretty general statements, but we all over look things...
