need help on noise reduction profiles

Hi,
I am new to this.
I am recording workshop and making cd’s for the participants.
I take a noise sample (as a separate file on my digital recorder) and then want to create a noise profile to use on all of the files from that workshop. I create a new file for each change of subject or break in the workshop.
I have tried to create a noise profile by opening the sample file, selecting a portion of the file, then effects>noise reduction> noise reduction> get profile from selection> save profile.
My problem is that the program does not save the file.
I have tried this several times and no saved file is created.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

You need to choose Save As in oreder for it to save. Windows is kind of dumb in that it doesn know that there is no existing file when you save. So it just dumps the file. You will need to choose as above and the choose the folder you wish to save it into. Something you will remember.

And make sure it is saving with the proper file extension.

It doesn't save a .wav file if that is what you are looking for. The only place you can load it back in will be under Noise Reduction->Load Profile (I believe the extension is .fft). By default it will be saved in the same directory you loaded the wav/sample from.

thanks for your input everyone
maybe some more details will help
the noise reduction dialoge box is the only place were you can save a profile
the button there says save profile
when i do that, the next box that pops up it the regular windows box that says save fft file
i put in a name and go the the folder i want to save it in, and click save.
the box closes, but the file is not saved, it does not come up in explorer in that folder or anywhere else i can find it.

hope someone can help

thanks

I no longer have CEP loaded or AA 1.x, so I can't check this, but I think the settings may be saved in the cool.ini file and not an actual file. Are you able to access the profile from the NR dialogue box? I'll check to see if AA 2.0 works in the same manner.

Why use the same profile for all? I have done loads of noise reduction myself and get a different noise print every time I do it...just to ensure accurate reduction for each tape. Or, are these profiles just used as a starting point?

I would use a different one for each as well no 2 files are going to have the exact same noise. Though if the noise is always similar it could be used for a starting point, but I think you'd still get much better results getting the profile on each file.

these files are all of the same meeting in the same room. i just create a new file each time the subject changes. but i make a seperate file with everyone in the room being silent to catch the background noise. that background is what i want to subtract from each of the files with talking on it. if i look in each file, some do not have moments of silence so i don't know how i would subtract out the noise from them.

Ah, okay that makes sense. You should be able to load the profile from within CEP's NR. If you don't see it where you saved it, look in CEP's default folder for filters, it might be saving it there.

it appears the progam is not saving the file
i have tried to save the profile from inside the nr box
i save it to a particualr folder
it does not show up there or anywhere else on the hard drive (i did a search for fft files.)
this feature has worked in the past and saved the files exactly where i had put them.
i don't understand why it will not work anymore.
any ideas?

thanks
