I paid off a large debt I had left over from a pay fiasco in the military a few years ago... It got referred to Dept. of Treasury from DFAS and I paid it off in one lump sum last week... I got a letter today acknowledging my payment but stating that my balance is being refered for a collection action... all $0 ... I don't know how I'll manage...

Of couse I called them thinking they tacked on a last minute charge (like they did when DFAS passed it off to DOT)... but nope... $0 ... the phone rep said it happens all the time...

Hahaha, it actually cost them to send the letter too. Maybe you should write them back and damand a $0 refund!

That is pretty fun, in a sad, stupid sort of way. It'd be much finnier if it wasn't $.37 of our tax dollars wasted to send that letter...

ug, i just got a letter from state IRS, saying I changed my income source in 2003, (how the heck would I even do that?) and I now owe them 555$ for some reason.

I wish I had your problem, instead of mine =).
