Hi,

I have cool edit pro and a Shure SM57 microphone . I want to record my upright piano onto my computer and then make cds from that. But I am having trouble recording. I use M-Audio's Fast Track USB to connect my mic to my computer but it is not really working. In CEP when i tap the microphone, I can see the input level bar thing go up and down, which means it is getting some signal, but it doesnt pick up anything other than me tapping the mic head; no sound or anything. I searched in a lot of the settings and stuff but couldn't find anything useful. Can someone help me so I can get this mic to pick up regular sounds? Thanks.

do you get any sound out of your speakers when you tap the mic? how about when you record the tapping then play it back? this could be a setting in CEP's audio options.

Are you arming the track to record?

If it picks up the tapping it should pick up the piano.

O sorry guys, I solved the problem just now. Before I had the mic going to the Fast Track interface using a cable that had a mic cable on one end and the other end going into the fast track was a regular guitar cable size cable. I was plugging this into where a guitar would usually go. Now I have a cable that has a mic ending on both ends and I plug that into the mic place. Thanks for your help anyways.
