The best damn part of the whole thing, it was other Iraqi's that ratted out his location...that says a lot the way I look at it...

with all the people killed with him I wonder how far down the chain the insurgents have to reach for a new leader...

Well, it is a good step for the war, getting rid of the head of the insurgency along with 7 other top ranking insurgents...

it's pissing me off how the media won't just say he's dead and leave it alone, the media is making such a huge deal out of it he practically is being made out like some sort of evil superhero...which is just what he wanted, a martyr type status in a weird way...

Then that Berg guy (dad of a dude that lost his head to the terrorists) is now saying he blames bush for his sons death and expressed how well he knows how al-Zarqawi's family must feel...come on, now...A horrendous terrorist is dead...the Iraq's have elected a gov't, the final people have been assigned...the people seem to want a democracy...don't they?

...depends on the media you listen to I suppose...

yep, and while it is a good step for the war, i might argue on how big of a step it is....if they take out Chaney how much closer to 'winning' would they be?

if anything comes of this, i'da thought they'd make a big deal about connecting al-qaeda with iraq..."look! there he is, in iraq!"

Well, I don't believe Cheney and al-Zarqawi are really accurate comparisons...not that I am any military minded guru of any sort, but I would liken al-Zarqawi more to one of the chief, in action, military stratigists...not the guy with a bad heart that doesn.t call the shots from a cushy office on capital hill.

Near as I can tell from what I have heard over the month, the head was just cut off the snake...there will be another al-Zarqawi to take his place tho...so in some ways it seems like getting a drug dealer off the streets, there is one waiting to take his place, but then, it's still one off the street...

I think they demoted al-Zarqawi before we nailed him. And like dB said, other Iraqis ratted him out. I think we probably just did them a favor. Even if he was calling shots, I doubt its hard to replace him. It is hard to fight terrorists for that very reason. By the time we catch these leaders, it appears that they are no longer the big shots that they were when we were really thirsting for their capture.

Now this is an exact example of why I so completely hate the radical left...not left on the whole, just the radical left...people that are so blinded by anger and hatred of the country they live in, they can not be happy for a huge victory.

I am not saying you are radically left, but that story, while it may be true, is just yet another example of left-wing media trying at every turn, to downplay any successes made by this war and this administration.

Will somebody replace him, yes, did Osama want him gone, perhaps, but, is it a victory for Iraq to have him gone, absolutely.

Radical lefties would be so much more happy if they could just smile and be happy now and then.

lol, I pieced that together from what I heard on Fox News actually. I am nowhere near the left. I know that they will say something similar to what I said repeatedly just to downplay what accomplishments we have made. But even the president was quick to say that al-Zarqawi's death is not some major turning point.

My only point is that its very hard if not impossible to win this in the way we are trying to fight it. Since we have such strong inhibitions about collateral damage, that leaves us with hunting down individuals much like police do with criminals and we know how much of an on-going thing that is. It takes too long just to get one and then they will replace him and it will take us an equal amount of time to kill the new guy.

I have always been for the war, but its hard to tell how it will all pan out. Taking out Osama would not be nearly as crippling as taking out Hitler would have been in WWII. It is simple logic/strategy, not politics. Obviously I would hope that the terrorist groups disband and we can call this over. But I'm not the lefty that yells retreat to make it happen.

Yeah, Google's ads actually read the page text and show contxt-sensitive ads, pretty cool huh?

Yeah, I heard lots of similar stories all over the news, it's just the way some protrayed those facts that made it different.

I have always been pro-war in this instance (tho the phrase "pro-war" kinda bugs me cuz wars sucks) but I am not any more for the simple reasons you stated, the military isn't fighting the war, the politicians are and thats just wrong. let the military do what they are there to do and it'd get done.

In the wise words of Larry the Cable Guy, git 'r done!

i just don't see it as a "huge victory"......no terrorist is gonna put up the 'ole white flag and say "we give up, you got our leader, let there be peace" none.

it's kinda like that b.s. waste of time, money, and effort fighting the 'war on drugs', this is another stupid cause to and end that no mean can reach, there is no declared victory....i wonder how many millions they sank into that political campaign.....but i'm gettin' off point.

the only 'victory' i see this as is for our troops, and the publics moral. makes us feel warm and tingly inside, fighting the just war, and scoring a point for the team. as loki said "go team".
