you probably know it already but go to pandora.com and have a look, put in an artist or tune you likes and it builds a playlist of stuff it deems similar...

and its pretty good, especially of choosing a cd to stick on can take an hour...

i did. but i stopped using it for some reason. i wasnt sure if it was always making good matches or not. cuz sometimes it introdued me to stuff and other times it served up richard marx and crap.

I havent had that bad of luck. But then again I haven't listened to anything that might trigger a Richard Marx match.

What on earth did you put in that would feed you Richard Marx anyway. That is kind of a narrow genre he is in. I think its called shlock!

I did however find a couple really good Japanese artists when searching with Tangerine Dream though. And some real oddities when searching with Frank Zappa. Good stuff though.

i dont know; i have no idea. i was surprised, though. it could have been beck's acoustic stuff or something similar.

the pandora engine is great but here is where it fails. something like beck and richard marx could be superficially similar musically, perhaps, but there's a WORLD of difference!

I tend to agree heavily with you there forty, they are not even close at all. They are on completely differant sides of the planet.
