So....then cubase "regular" would be ideal?

"regular" Cubase and Sonar can do pretty much all the same things, I would be hard pressed to call either one better than the other.

"Ideal" is whatever works for you, for me, it's Sonar.

Cubase SE was ideal for me because it cost $100.

Sonar 5 costs $500 (and its even more for the full version of Cubase SX3). It's comparing apples to grapefruits when comparing Cubase SE to Sonar 5.

It depends on what you need. SE is a scaled-down but still fully capable multitrack app. 48 tracks, 5 inserts per track, unlimited MIDI tracks, and a full suite of VST effects.

You'll have to evaluate your needs and find the software that best suits you.

I make audio all day every day, and i'm using Cubase SE 3 right now. The last piece of audio i made, my company sold to a customer for a five figure sum, so i guess I'd say that IMO its pretty capable.

Its not like the old days of Cubasis where you were real limited - i bet theres not much you cant do in SE, unless you want surround sound mixing desperately.

This is the final question then im buying some equipment by the end of this week.

Which software would be the SIMPLEST/EASIEST (spelling?) to use? and of course keeping in mind the wav,mp3,wma conversions!!!!!!!

THANKS!

You are not a pain, this is what the site is for, so keep asking...

The problem is, you are asking subjective questions. Whats best and easiest is relative...for me it's Sonar, for others it's Cubase, for some it's Tracktion (from Mackie, check it out if you can)...your best bet is to download demos of apps that interest you and give them a test drive.

Ya, no problem asking all the questions you can. Others will read as well and learn things they might not have asked yet, but you did.

dB is correct though, it is really a matter of finding what is right for you. The .wav, mp3 and wma thing will be a pretty deciding factor though as most applications wont load and convert them. Sonar is one of the few out there that does.

As for ease of use, well like dB stated. It is a matter of how you use it. Cakewalk products have a good reputation for having excellant help files and tutorials. Their website has tutorials on every product they make. From the very entry level to the top of the line. They even have tutorials on using the software synths tha come bundled with their products, and a even a few that dont.

Tracktion is a really straight forward bit of software as well. Pretty simple GUI and not bad with the goodies it comes with. I am not certain if it handles loading and converting the fromats you require though. It would be worth a check though.
