Hey, my brother and I have been recording local bands using a roland 2400cd but recently weve been considering switching to pro tools and a mac due to the plug in capabilities and such and saw this ad: pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/148394137.html

first of all does that sound like a good deal, up to date enough and so on. and if so what all am I going to need to get up and recording bands again. My main concern is the interface, ill need one that can record at least 8 at a time.

Any suggestions or comments would be amazing, thanks guys!

I dont honestly know that it is worth $900.00 as it is a bit dated now. At least the Mac is. The Digi 001 is only going to give you 2 inputs to use to record with at one time. He does not list any pluggins and if it is the stock ProTools LE as he has listed there it only comes with a few pluggins. They are goo oned, but it is far from an entire suite of tools. More then 32 tracks is a stretch as well, cone LE as far as I know is limited to 24 or 32 track total. I could be wrong there though.

Do you have a PC that can be used to record? For a little more of an investment you can build a good PC and put in an interface such as the M-Audio Deltat 1010 or an ESI ESP 1010 and have the 8 simultainius channels to record at once with.

As well, you could stick with the 2400CD and simply build the PC with a smaller interface and transfer tracks from the 2400 to the PC for editing and mixing that way. Applications such as Sonar 5 and Cubase SX come with a much larger suite of pluggins the PT LE does. And the ability to grow with the application without spending a ton of money is there with those kinds of applications.

The only other computers we have are used by our family as well and have tons of games and crap on them so Id guess they wouldnt be the best for this. I like the idea of keeping the roland and using a computer to mix though. Would his mac be too out dated to use then?

ehh... I'd say no. Though I'm not a fan of Macs... you should be able to get a new Mac Mini 1.2Ghz for $500 or less and the extra $400 will get you an M-Box (whatever) with money left over for a RAM upgrade.
