Ok, it's back up... This is the corrected one.
this is a more conventional song. Simple orchestration (piano, bass, drums, guitar). My daughter is singing, I play the piano, the rest is Cakewalk. I didn't put this on soundclick because I'd like feedback on the mix. I don't have a premium account and I don't feel it's possible to really critique a mix at 128k bits. This is encoded at 256k bits (320 woulda been better, but bigger).
Time: 5:09, size: 9.5MB.

Would appreciate any comments or suggestions. How's the mix? Is it loud enough?
Thanks in advance!

Mar 28, 2006 10:29 pm Dang it, ya took down the link. Thats not fair.
The last 2 with your daughter singing are in my main playlist. And this one sounds title wise like a winner.
If only I would have scanned my email quicker!
Mar 29, 2006 11:01 am It will be back up today. Sorry about that. The mix really was bad...

Mar 29, 2006 11:45 pm Yowza, that is smooth my friend. Walt would love this one. I may have to email him and get him to peek in on this one.
Anyway, I'll save critique for tommorrow as I only had a quiet listen and that just dont cut it for really hearing things.
But in the quiet, that was damn good stuff. Man can your daughter sing! Very expresive voice indeed.
And nice piano playing by the way. Very interesting tune, real dark and smokey. Made me feel like I was in a speak easy. :-)

Mar 30, 2006 06:28 am That is a fantastic title...
The song sounds very live, like it was recorded in a club. There's real atmosphere here. Not a genre i have any great knowledge about but it has a 50's feel to it. It felt like reading Raymond Chandler and i was imagining Marlowe smoking alone at the back of the club while this played out..... As noize said, 'smokey'
really enjoyed it, great music, great voice.
Mar 30, 2006 04:10 pm Thanks Noize, Mac... Appreciate the listen. I thought maybe the highs were a bit too pronounced. Sounded Ok in my car, but not on the home stereo, had to knock off some of the high end. My daughter will really enjoy the props!

Mar 30, 2006 09:08 pm DungBeatle, had another listen tonight. Man is that good. And I love the strings arrangement, very subtle yet still gets the point accross. I'm a sucker for strings though. They really add to her vocal though, make it stand out.
You got a very smooth live room sound. I closed my eyes and got the feeling of being in a big ballroom slow dancing. Her vocal was very penatrating, almost like she was in the same room here. In fact the entire mix sounded like it could have been coming from the next room live.
Nice drum programming by the way as well, very natural feel to them. And the sound was again very live. The highs were not bad here at all. Things that seemed bright only added to the live feel of it.
Your daughter has a very practiced sounding voice, as if she has been dong this for years on end. Very dramatic feel to the vocal. But the entire mix really added to that feel. By all means give her my compliments on the vocal. And as well, give yourself compliments on the arrangment, I absolutely loved it.

Mar 31, 2006 11:37 am Thanks for the feedback Noize! Always appreciated. My daughter will appreciate it too! She's a Theatre Arts grad, so you might notice the "Broadway musical" in her voice.

Mar 31, 2006 06:23 pm That would surely be it. You can here the practiced perfection, everything pronounced clearly and audibly.
