Chatroom, anyone?

We just might have enough traffic these days where we could support a chatroom? Any thoughts on the subject folks? Would you like one, not like one?

The pro's real-time conversation...the con's, it may take away from forum content.

Maybe scheduling chats every now and then?

I think that would be cool. And I don't think it would take much away from forum traffic really, cause someone will ask in the chat, but maybe they can't get enough info their so they'd post it back to the board. I don't know though. I'm up for a chat room.

And or the option of saving the text from the chat and posting it later. That way it get's to the main forum, and we can post it titled as last night's chat, etc.. I like the idea af pre arranged chat's, maybe schedule certain topic's to be discussed. If we really get lucky, we could attract some big shot's from somewhere and have them get online to chat with our member's.

OK so now I'm gettin out there abit, but ya get the general idea.

Actually, that is so good of an idea, I did it about a year ago, only it was "HRC Radio" it was online for around 6 months, I had a couple commercials and about 60 tunes that members, Noize or myself had put up there (yes collapse, even some tunes from me) in 6 month I think 6 people ltuned in besides myself and Noize.

For that reason I took it down. Truth told, we have actually had chat rooms once or twice as well, but they were failures, which is why I am still apprehensive to put much work into another with all those fancy features. I pretty much HAVE to code the chat myself, not really that hard, but I have to because I want it to automatically log people in based on their login for the rest of the site...so no third party, free chat thing would work...therein lies the issue, it's all about "return on investment".

fair enough then...shame, cos that would've been cool if people tuned in to it...

and like ya say, its a lot of time invested for 6 people to listen to...

Part of the problem of online radio is bandwidth, and the fact that high-speed interent is not the majority yet. As traffic here picks up, the members music section gets more stuff in it and high-speed internet becomes more common it might be a viable option to try again.

High-speed interent is not nearly as common as they companies that offer it had hoped, mostly because they still charge way to much for it. As they lower prices to penetrate the marketplace more people will get it then things like online radio and TV will become a more viable option to have.

A T1 line, of course! I will never be able to go back to 56K as long as I live. Even now I think my service is slow sometime's when a page slage's while loading.
