Im recording guitar through a line 6 xt live that i just got this week into a roland 2400cd and from what ive been told I should be able to get perfect tone this way. Everyone said id question ever using a micd amp set up again but for some reason i still cant get very good distorted guitar tones. Do you think its me or am i expecting too much?

Thanks

I use the Xt Live and love it. What type of distorted tones are you looking to get? The stock presets to me are ok but not what I really wanted. It took some tweaking to get what I wanted but it worked well. Have you tried to go to www.line6.com and download some other tone patches? Thats a nice resource. One thing I like to do is to turn down the presence, with a lot of presence I feel that it makes the sound a bit muddy. My setup is an Ibanez RG350 loaded with Dimarzio Evolution brigde and neck pickups and a Chopper in the middle position. I have also downloaded the Metal expansion pack for the XT live but I was able to get pretty good tones even before I added that.

Well im recording a bunch of local bands so im going to need to be able to achieve a variety of tones. We've been having trouble getting good tones for metal and pop punk rythm guitars. Like you mention it is coming out very muddy so ill give the presence another shot but i thought i had tried that. Do you think I should get a good signal right off the bat or will i need to eq it with my roland? Thanks for the help

Every guitar will sound a littel differant through the POD. I have not turned back to real amps since the POD. I kept one around through the first version of the POD, but after the XT I probable wont use another amp again.

It is a little bit of work to get the tone sounding the way you want. But as stated the presence and mids are a good place to start. As well you might want to start out with small amounts of gain and work your way up. Also, I might add that combining high gain on the POD and hitting a stomp box distortion full on will result in bad sounding distortion. So find a middle ground there somewhere and start out with a little and work your way up.

A side not would be to get it hooked up to your PC via USB and set the Line 6 Monkey to update it. And as well work the tones out with the included Lin 6 Edit software on your PC. It really makes editing your patches a breeze.

Noize beat me to it! I was going to suggest getting the Line 6 monkey and Line 6 edit software downloads. The Line 6 edit is pretty easy to use and makes editing your sounds a little easier by giving you a more visual approach. The on-board EQ is much easier for me to adjust by using the L6 edit and that could help you with your muddy sounds. I set my guitar sounds up in the XT but I do sometimes EQ a little after the fact to get a sound to sit better with the other instruments.
