24-bit recording on Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro

As far as I know, it's not possible. I have an M-Audio 24/96 and anytime I try to create a 24 bit file or do anything having to do with 24bit Cakewalk crashes. I've been told by either Cakewalk or M-Audio that it's because GT Pro uses MIME drivers (or something that I don't understand) and that doesn't jive with Windows (XP). M-Audio sent me a software disc that supposedly uses different Windows drivers and will allow 24bit recording. I have yet to install it. Mostly because I don't WANT to use something else. I want to use Cakewalk and it's brilliant, easy to use interface!

Anyone have any experience or knowledge in this matter? Maybe just something to help me understand what's happening?

Guitar Tracks Pro supports the use the ASIO and WDM drivers, as part of troubleshooting this problem I would first go to the web sites for both companies and make sure you have all the updates for the card anf the program, then try with both of the driver types and see if it only crashes with one or both types.

Agree with dB on this one. Which version of Guitar Tracks Pro do you have? All but the oldest version should support both ASIO and WDM drivers for the 2496 card.

And GT Pro does not choose the drivers by default, the user does. It simply loads whatever drivers you have installed. It should default to WDM if you have them installed.

So yes, istall the drivers and you will see a marked improvement in performance. Make sure you go in and select the proper drivers though as they wont select themselves in GT Pro.

I've bounced back and forth between tech support for Cakewalk and M-Audio. I can find information on both companys' support pages that say they support WDM drivers. Cakewalk does give me a choice of which driver to use, but none of them say anything about AISO or WDM.

Like I said, I've talked to both support teams and as I remember, the M-Audio tech said that I was S.O.L. because of a difference in drivers used. So, I've battled it, updated everything re-installed everything in different orders and configurations, you name it.

What I need to do to help narrow things down is use M-Audio's proprietary software and see if it records in 24bit and what type of drivers it uses. It's a PITA.

Again though a question that will help solve this and give you a definate answer is what version of Guitar Tracks Pro are you using? As I stated above, ASIO was not implemented in the first version or two. So that might be an issue for you as well.

But that said, WDM has always been implemented and M-Audio does have WDM drivers in their driver install. And All cakewalk products have been able to use that since its inception years ago.

Ah, I see. I thought you were just asking about software updates ie. patches and whatnot. It's Guitar Tracks Pro as opposed to Guitar Tracks 2. So, I think it's the first version. If you go to Help > About it will tell you it's "Guitar Tracks Pro v. 2.01. But, hell I don't know. Cakewalk site only talks about Guitar Tracks Pro and Guitar Tracks Pro 3.

If it says v. 2.01 then it is version 2 of the applications. And it should be able to use ASIO.

And yes I agree the site can be missleading when trying to find the correct app.
