Outboard Effects Problem

Here is my Dilemma:
I have a presonus Firepod and a recently acquired Antares ATR-1. (I'm using Cubase). I am trying to use the atr-1 on a previously recorded vocal track but when I play it back, I hear both the original track and the processed track together which can become quite dissonant at times :) I know this isn't what it is supposed to sound like, but I cant figure out how to only output the processed track. any ideas would be great, cause im stuck.

-this is the first piece of outborad gear i have tried hooking up to my firepod, Im still a bit new to all of it. thanks!

in cubase, set your channel output to one (not all or 'main') of the firepod's outputs, ie: output 3.....run a cable from that output to the atr-1, then run the output of the atr1 into an input of the firepod...set that channel's output to your main stereo output, remember you do NOT want the original track to go out your main outputs (or monitor for that matter).

lemme know if that makes sense to ya.

ok.. I think that makes sense, another thing maybe I shold have mentioned is that I am in the process of getting new monitors so at the moment I am having to use the headphone output on the firepod. I just tried turning the mixer knob on the front of the firepod all the way to input 1-8 and am able to hear just the proccessed track, but I dont think that is the way to actually fix it..
-so right now i have the line out from the atr-1 going in to the line input 1 on the firepod. i dont think i have it right yet..

Can anyone set me straight, I think I dont really understand the way monitoring works with the firepod. that plus the fact im not sure if I have the atr-1 hooked up right in the first place.
atr-1 input to FP line out1
atr-1 output to FP line input1
so frustrating...

yeah you're hooked up right, you have to tell cubase to send ONLY the original track out through the firepods' output #1....this is in your track view on the channel strip, when you setup the second track, set the input to channel 1, and re-record the whole thing, then mute the original track when you play back, and you'll be set.

awesome, that worked lovely.. thanks!
O, one other thing i might as well ask, If I want to track a vocalist with the atr-1 instead of using it afterwards how would i go about that?

you're gonna need some kind of microphone preamp, any mixing board will have one, or you can get a dedicated one like the Presonus Blue Tube....to get the mic to line level, so your signal chain goes like this : mic > mic preamp > ATR-1 > firepod.

glad everything worked out
