I'm thinking about getting an oxygen 8 midi controller to use with Reason adapted in conjunction w/ pro tools 7. I've never used a USB midi controller, do I need to set it up in AMS? or does it come with some sort of driver? or does it just recognize it from the usb port? Would it just be easier to run it through the midi in and outs on my mbox2?

i'm pretty sure most usb controlers are plug and play, i donno how it works with MAC's though. if you already have a keyboard with midi in and out, you can use that as a controller.

Unfortunately I don't have a keyboard. I've always been a rocker, who plays guitar. Now that I bought a pro tools rig, I want to start experimenting with electronic music. Recording rock bands and stuff, I've never really used midi at all. I have a general knowledge from school, but no practical application. Midi is my achilles heel.

yeah it used to be mine too, now i can't immagine life without it...it's a great compositional tool, definately get yourself a controller, you won't regret it. it's opened my eyes to a plethora of musical ideas.

Lucky, I am not sure about Mac either. But if it is USB I am guessing you install the driver set and then probably set it up in AMS as well. dont quote me on that, but it might be correct.

I guess I would install the drivers and then open Reason and see if they are present for you to select.
