Some enlightenment about the industry.Having been part of a large newsgroup within Cakewalks inner workings now for the past 6 months. I have been privaliged to see the other side, or inside of the industry that serves us the end users. And it honestly has really opened my eyes in more then one way. I now have even more respect, and understanding of the people who write the software, build the hardware, and overall just give us the tools to make the music we make. Besides looking at the inside, I now have a better understanding of why certain things work and other dont, why some software/hardware play together well and why some dont. I also understand the constant upgrades and updates as well now. It all boils down to the saying, If you want to play with the big dogs!

Anyway, I read an article that might be of interest to some, as well might not be to others. It is writen by Ron Kuper who manages the software group for Cakewalk, and it honestly shows they have concern for solving some of the incompatability issues we as end users face every day. Its a long article, but well worth the read. And dont let the money comments misslead you, its not all about the money. And follow some of the links, especially the going to the Project Bar-B-Q there is also lots of enlightenment there as well.

I'm buying a synth to flesh out some of my mainly acoustic recordings and really not sure where to start. Firstly, i can't play so i ain't gonna spend a lot.
Secondly, i can only offer a couple of recordings as guides to the type of sounds i'm after. I love the synth on Flaming lips 'yoshimi battles....' album and also some of the stuff on Becks 'mutations'.
I'd also love to be able to do slightly bizzare sci-fi effects.
I know i'm not helping much but there goes. My limit is £150 and i suppose my realm will be second hand e-bay.
Are there any key words i should be looking for in the descriptions? Heres a couple i'm looking at....would they be any good? If you could tell me why they would or wouldn't that would be ace.
Thanks very much
which ones better?I was looking into home recording and I'm not quite sure, but I think that the best/easiest/cheapest way to start out would be a usb audio capture device.

I was looking at something like these:
1. Edirol UA25 at $240
2. M-Audio MobilePre at $150
which one do you guys think is better, or am I wasting my time? Whats the playback sound like with these? I'm using it for guitar and maybe down the road I'll try some vocals.
Thanks for the help, I'm a newbie as if you couldn't already tell!

Well I picked up a kickass keyboard for dirt cheap. Yamaha SY-55 with sustain pedal (probably standard). However, there is no manuel. So I was wondering if you guys knew of a site or place where I could obtain the manuel for this model (it's an older keyboard, so I'm not sure if it's downloadable).
Also, How could I find out how much memory the keyboard can hold and how much is being used up? What type of memory card does this keyboard use? It has a slot for "WAVEFORM" and "DATA", which I have no clue as to what they actually mean. The keyboard originally came with 64 voices, but the guy uploaded another 64 in the past. So in total, there is 128 voices.
Any help would be appreciated.
by the way, I already checked Harmony-central but hardly any info.
Bass Drum MicsI am in the market for a new bass drum mic. I am looking for something in the $50-$150 range. Any suggestions?
