I'm not able to record with Sonar 5.1

I use a small 6 channel Mixer - Tapco 6306 www.tapcoworld.com/products/6306/

I have plug my headphone Audio-technica ATH-M40fs (studiophones)

And 2x 1/4 cable to my Output on the Delta rack

I have sound, great !

Now time to record- opps
Unable to record.
Maybe I did not connect the cable into the good spot on my mixer?
so I try diferent location on my mixer. I try all spot.
Still unable to record.

Phantom power is ON and I'm able to listen to my voice

When I go to Control Panel/Sound - Audio device
first thing I see is, I'm not able to select "Place volume in taskbar" or "mute" Is this normal?

In the audio Tab I have:
Sound Playback - Default device: M-Audio Delta 1010 Multi
Sound Recording - Default device: M-Audio Delta 1010 Multi
Same on the Voice Tab

What I'm doing wrong?
This is my setup:

Sonar 5.1 Audio Options
Playback Timming Master 1: M-Audio Delta 1010 Multi 1/2
Record Timing Master: 1: M-Audio Delta 1010 Multi 1/2
Audio Driver Bit Depth (24)
Stereo Panning Law 0db center, sin/cos taper, constant power
Sampling rate 44100
Buffer in Playback Queue: 2
Buffer Size 5.8

In my Track setup I have
Input: Left M-Audio Delta 1010 Multi 1/2
Output: Master (I also try all the other option (12 in total))

What is the setup to use in the Delta control panel?

How to configure XP with Delta 1010 and Sonar 5.1?
Anyone know a good Website with easy documention?

trip39: 1st, which 1010 do you have? The regular one, or the LT?

"When I go to Control Panel/Sound - Audio device first thing I see is, I'm not able to select "Place volume in taskbar" or "mute" Is this normal?"

The Windows mixer is no longer used... Use your M-Audio software mixer to control your input/output levels.

When you go to record, are you "arming" the tracks for recording in Sonar? How are you getting signal from your mic (or other device that you're attempting to record) in to the 1010?

Get the mixer set first. Let's say you've got mic "A" in your Tapco channel one, and mic "B" in the Tapco channel two... Set your "Main" and individual channel levels to "0", then adjust the "Gain" knob for the pre-amp to where you're at most only lighting the LED ocassionally when you're "testing" your signal, but have a good level on the "Main" meter. If you get a good level on the "Main" without lighting up the pre-amp LED, all the better...

There are several ways you could hook-up from your mixer to the 1010. Check-out page 7 in your Mackie owner's manual for one example in diagram form, which would be the "recommended" method, other than you'd use 2 separate RCA-to-1/4" cables from the tape-out jacks of the Mackie to your 1010 inputs (or RCA-to-RCA with the 1010LT). You could also use "Aux 1" for mic "A" and "Aux 2" for mic "B". Just insert a cable between the "Aux Send" "1 Mon" and your 1010 input, and between "2 EFX" and your 1010 input. Set your Aux Send levels where you want/need them (generally "0" or less, so you don't add any noise with "boosting" the signal). but you lose those Aux sends for other uses. Another way is similar to the Tapco diagram, using the "Tape Out", you would instead use the "Ctrl Room" outputs on the Tapco (instead of their example of going to speakers) and connect those "Ctrl Room" outs to your Tapco inputs. Pay attention to where you've got your "Tape to Mix" or "Ctrl to Mix" push buttons set, because they influence the signal flow.

Good luck, post back whatever happens...

As well, Sonar come with the most complete help section that installs with the software. As well as tutorials that start with the absolute basics and take you right through every step of the process.

I am guessing you might not have the mixer sending the signal to the 1010 properly. As well maybe as jmail suggested you might not be arming the track to record.
