Jan 17, 2006 01:27 pm what sound device? What Operating System? What virus did you have, was it completely removed? What size computer?
You should fill out your profile...
Jan 17, 2006 01:35 pm sorry let me fill out my profile..it is on studio comp, i had a virus that was going around via AIM, someone IM me saying 'check my new years pic' give me virus shut down whole PC..computer size is 40GB got a slave drive 40GB and external harddrive 250GB, was windows XP home, now the computer man put XP Professional..Sound device is standard with the P.C - C-Media AC97 (soundcard)
Jan 17, 2006 01:59 pm sorry profile updated, thanks
Jan 17, 2006 02:00 pm I'd say the sound device (C-Media AC-97) is the biggest, brightest red flag in that setup...it's very likely that all by itself is causing problems. Just not meant to be a recording device. Are you using WDM drivers? or MME?
Jan 17, 2006 02:05 pm could it be something like a loose/broken cable connected to the card? What do the peaks sound like. Are they just noise (cracks/pops) or is it a spike in volume?

Jan 17, 2006 02:07 pm i see, i been using this sound card for a while, it never had this problem tho?, i am looking to get an external soundcard how ever i'm not sure if this may be a problem on my PC?, i'm not to sure about WDM drivers or MME?, how may i find out?..thanks for the help
Jan 17, 2006 02:08 pm the media properties is WDM..
Jan 17, 2006 02:10 pm yeh, the chords have been tested via laptop problem don't exist on laptop works fine but cause soundcard is worst quality i can't record permanently in there, but it is like a spike..just random words peek, no clicks or pops in the recordings tho..never seen this before
Jan 17, 2006 02:12 pm OK, good, WDM is better...
Yeah, I suspected you likely have been using it for a while...it happens, I have seen it happen, using these stock sound cards (which are never the highest quality) will work for a while and then not.
I guess, as a precaution and as an effort to not jump to conclusions, have you tuned your computer much since getting it back?
www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=253 is a good starting point regarding things to do to keep your PC happy. Any extra apps running in the background (like down by your clock on your desktop screen?).
These are things to check that can help...
