I rekon at least 2 of the bands I'm mixing fit into this genre... Here's a snippit of mix I'm working on for the band "These Four Walls":
www.michelleklaessens.com...xdown_30sec.mp3 (Link disabled - see further down for newer post)
Interesting choice they made for the song they decided to record, coz I'm sure it's alot softer than what I've heard when they play live, and they are awesome live!
I'm still waiting for the lead singer, Steve to come around and do the vocals... I guess starting the mix is better than sitting around.

Tomorrow I will add a snippit of the other band "Escape Artist". lots of chugachugs and harmonies in the gats :-) cleaning up the stop starts is keeping me on my toes.

Teaser is right. Just as I was getting into it it was over. :-(

I love the guitars as usual, very nice sound for a rough mix. Just from the short clip it indeed sounded epic/dramatic. Cant wait to hear this one full on.

I think I have the vocals to loud, distorted gats could come up abit, and I want to change the frequency of slap in the kick a little...

Who else write blogs on this site? DB Masters, I rekon having a most recent blogs section like you suggested is a cool idea, then people interested in contributing ideas on recording can add tips and stuff through their blogs...

Hey Michelle, I think the gats are just fine. the vox could maybe be set back a bit in the verse and while singing soslo during the chorus. I love the echo on the lead vox as well, very distinct and fits well.

Agree the kick could be punched up a bit as well. The crushing bottom end distortion is very powerfull as well, the vox stand out over it though so dont loose that part of it when you set the vox back in the mix.

Like the song as well, very nicely done.

That is a very cool song Michelle, and the band sounds great. You did another excellent job to my ears. You can tweak it some, but I think it already sounds great! :)

Saw your blog on Audition, have you checked out Audition v2 yet? I upgraded when it was released, it is heads & shoulders above v1.5.
They still didn't put midi editing/recording in yet though. :( But dang near everything else is in there now. :)

very nice production....thats the first thought I have when this track starts...loud, yet tight...everything is easily heard and it all settles in the mix real well...

I like the sound of this band...

nice track.

Thanks Noize, Old Dog and Rasmuth.

I've made a few adjustments to this one now:
www.michelleklaessens.com...y_Mixdown_B.mp3

Was looking at the webpage for Adobe audition 2... very tempted, but current monetary circumstances dont allow. Will probably get later in the year. but in the meantime I'll keep using trusty old version 1.5 :-)

Those guitars are just plain crushing!!! You would think as heavy as they are the vox might get burried, but that isnt happening. Very nice indeed. Again, I love that little echo on the vocal in places. The drums again are great. The mix is very maxed out as well. Absolutely slammed my meters and spectragraph. It has that real loud feel to it which seems to be the trend right now in mixing and mastering. It is definately not overcooked though as there is still life and movement in it, so that is good.

Sweet! :-)

Here is the first pre mix of "Escape Artist" as promised earlier in the thread :-)
If you liked This Found Favour, you'll like these guys coz it has the contribution of one of the same song writers... Go James! A six piece this band has the potential to sound huge too...

what a good sound. the scream needs one scream center- then building screams from left and right till it sounds really really full. same with the rest of the loney screams- they are sorta empty, other than that this should be on the radio. great stuff

Hey Michelle, love the tune. Tuna was in here and was really diggin it as well. I gotta say I'm missing your normal drum sound on this one. I am wondering if it is the heavy lower end content. Have a look at the screne shot from SF, www.pigpenstudio.com/index.php?id=7 you'll see what I mean. Click EscapeArtist.jpg and you'll open the page. Again it is really maxxed out in the mp3 as well and pounds the meters into clipping. It doesnt sound like it but you can see the meters reading clip. I froze the anylizer about a second or so into the very first scream so you know about where I was. There seems to be some really boosted material all the way down at 20Hz, and it can peak at 0dB on occasion. I will try and give a better listen later and see if I can tell what is doing it.

I think on this one the entire mix could benefit with a small boost in the mid to upper-mid freq's. Everything sounds a bit muddy to me. Of course that could be the sound the band is after. The vocals are clear and sound good, I just think a bit more definintion in the rest of the mix would sound better at least to my ears. :)

Great song, and the band is excellent. :)

A- Nice-(i dont hear any acoustic guitar, but thats ok) its much clearer...... things dont argue with each other any more. good work. id like to hear a perfect harmony of the vocals, sung- not screamed at the end......youre lying to my face.. (just a thought) with the ryth guitar changed to a flanged acoustic both guys singing together)

b- ohh, this sound better for some reason-
but the vox lost a little the music sounded better but the vox in the start seemed off some how. as i listen it still grabs me, one thing i hear is the paint can ball bouncin around alotat the end, dont know what that is-

i will say, this (both)are really good- not my thing but well done, if youve heard my stuff well then you know i got no place complainin!
good job guys
