Hello,
I'm new to this forum but I thought I'd get some good answers so I decided to sign-up. I am looking for away to get my voice and keyboard into the computer to record. Now my set-up is a keyboad that has stereo line outs and so ideally top get the best sound I'd like to feed it into the computer in stereo. I then have a Shure SM58 with the xlr lead so I would need a xlr input on the audio card. Ideally it should be USB and this is one I have found;
www.behringer.com/BCA2000/index.cfm?lang=ENG

Anybody had any expereince with this as it looks ideal for what I'd need it for. If anybody knows of any cheaper alternatives that would be great but this one is good because I can simultaneously record one stereo input and one mono input which is great because this means I can record the stereo pianoa and my voice in all together,

Please can someone get back to me and tell me whether this desk will suit me or if there is a cheaper alternative,

Many thanks,
Nathan J Fox

Hello Nathan, Welcome to HRC.

From my searching on Froogle, the device you pointed to sells for a bit over $200...that is a pretty good price for any sound device with XLR...not only XLR but you also need to make sure it has a preamp for the microphone. Edirol is another manufacturer that makes semi-pro gear for a decent price like Behringer.

However rather than go that route, you may want to consider a higher end sound card that doesn't have XLR, so it will likely cost less, and get an inexpensive mixer for the mic and keyboard to plug in to, plus a little room for future expansion.

Then there is software to think about...

Wow!! That little Behringer device is loaded!! I've never come across a USB interface with so much stuff. It's really like a mixer and an interface in one. MIDI suppport...built-in preamps...ADAT interface (you think it sends and receives all 8 ADAT channels?)

Doesn't really help answer your question though, does it Nathan? I think it will do what you describe. I'd love to have a unit like that. On the other hand, dB gives great advice about a less expensive interface and an inexpensive mixer. Gives you a little more expandability.

Either way, we can't wait to hear what you come up with in terms of recording!

Welcome to HRC!!
