Gapping/firebox/LE/PC

So I just opened my new firebox for christmas. I've installed the drivers and cubase LE. I got everything up and running, checked my levels, everything is lovely, BUT then it's not recording right. I can see it lagging as I record, and when I play everything back, I get tons of skipping and popping like an old record player. I'm not talking about playing lots of tracks at once, just the one simple basic track. I've searched through the archives, but I can't find anything specific to my problem.

For whatever it's worth, I'm running XP pro, I've got a separate user/profile for my sound stuff, I've got 1 GB of Ram, running a pentium IV? and have 2.0Ghz CPU. I think.

I can't see why I have this gapping and skipping problem.

Can anyone help me?

You may want to check and see if there are moer recent drivers available for the interface. Usually there are as the ones that ship with the unit have been updated by the time the customer gets them.

As well, make sure you are using the ASIO drivers and not an emulated driver. The emulated drivers can be very unstable.

Im not a Cubase user so maybe one of the users here that does use LE can shed some further light for you. Normally it is related to the settings not being just right for your set up that will cause that kind of problem.

www.musicxp.net for Windows XP "tuning" tips for audio. You can't have other stuff running while you do audio, and you have to have everything as "efficient" as possible on the computer. So, defrag the hard drive (a 2nd hard drive for the audio "capture" is good) and start with a "fresh" boot. Don't do any other apps before the audio. Disconnect the NIC and "kill" all the background stuff such as AV, firewalls and schedulers. Check you ASIO latency, also. Be sure you're using the "driver" for your interface in LE; don't use the Windows stuff.
