Hey all, I've been wanting to run a Dual Montitor Computer set up, but before I invest big money into it I need to know if It can do what I want:
I want one Monitor to open like the track list view of Sonar while the other monitor open the Mixer veiw of Sonar, of the same song. Will I need to go dual processor for this or what? I'm very computer illiterate

no you don't need dual processor...you need a video card that support dual monitors (I just got an ATI Radeon 7500 that does it) and at work I have a Radeon VE that does it. Yes you can do exactly what you want, that is what I use it for at work, when I do video or audio editing I have to app open in one window and any effect plugin, etc sitting in the other monitor, it's very cool, that's why I decided to set one up at home in my studio...

When adding the second monitor, have a great deal of patience when your PC starts up the first time, Windows weirds out and get confused by two so it may take several minutes to get booted up, then there is configuring the thing...oh it's fun...my first time took me half my workday to figure it all out...

On the upside, ATI's "HydraVision" app allows you to have the PC remember which apps opened on which monitor so they always open in the same one and always open maximized or not and other fun stuff, it is super cool.

Hey, I looked in Ebay for that card you said you had, and from what I have seen it only has one output to the monitor. Whats up with that? DO I need to buy two of these cards, one for each monitor?

no, with the retail box (not sure about OEM) you get a dongle that is an adapter from the flatpanel display output to typical 15 pin output. Likewise it has an adapter for turning S-video into a composite RCA jack so it will outpput to any VCR and many TV's (if it doesn't output to your TV just run it to any old VCR then to your TV).

Best Buy Co. had the retail box last week for $100, I have seen them online (OEM for about $65-$70) not sure if all the adapters come with the OEM version though. Online I think the retail box was around $85-$90...I think...

Alrighty then, cool beans. So now I want to get that video card, a new monitor to play with it, a 4in/4out soundcard, decent mixer, and a pair of monitors... lol I'm never gonna be able to afford this on minimum wage

Hey, Loki you can alway's hunt around for someone that might be getting rid of one and looking for something you might have. The barter system work's well around here. Trading gear is a way of life for some of us.

Well I'm educated. At least a lot more then my peers. But as far as Jobs go, not much I can do about that seeing as how i'm rather young and I don't have my own car, that's actually why I got a job to begin with, then I got into recording and was like "wow, I need money for this..." lol If I was not such a gear whore it'd be okey, but I want the best of everything. Ah well. But yeah, Right now I'm saving up for a Car and a New Soundcard, I just got a copy of Sonar 5.0 and am waiting for it to be delivered through the mail. Man, I'm going on and on. Later guys.
