"Creep" Cover - My Best Work So Far, Agree?

I believe this is my best work so far. I created it in about 4 hours using Fruity Loops, Cubase SX3 (lots of Midi) and my own voice. It just fell together very nicely.

Obviously, the chorus is the weakest part because I don't have guitars and I haven't found a way to replace guitars with synths (yet). However, I like how it turned out for the most part.

Comments? Suggestions? Questions?

One thing in particular: are the vocals too low?

well done. I'm impressed with of your voice, it's very good. I don't think the vocals are low, actually, they are pretty out-front, being totally dry and all. I'd say that certain parts of the chorus the vocals could come down, but most of the rest of the song, the levels are pretty good.

I'd suggest finding some better samples for fruity. fruity can be used pretty well, but those ones you've picked are pretty cheesy. I've got some 16bit samples from Tom Hicks which aren't too bad.

I've used them over the included samples from FL.

Very cool. Great singing. I actually liked the stabs prior to the chorus. I was kinda wondering how you'd do that.

When I told people at school (highschool, I am 17) that I was covering Creep, the question EVERYONE asked was "how will you do that guitar before the chorus?". I didn't think I did it justice but it appears its not that bad after all. Thanks for the comments!

I was thinking along the slayer line as well. It's not perfect, but it should be better than the synth stuff that's in there.

You may have to make the slayer lines, then record them as you probably won't be able to save the file if you didn't register slayer.

I gotta say up front I really dislike synth, so I hesitated to even listen to this track. After listening I was left unsatisfied by the synth. Just doesn't cut it for me.

That being said you have an excellent voice. Although I was really looking forward to the climactic "She runs...runs....runs..RUUUUUUUNS!". Understandly so, you left it out. Thats a huge note.

Great job. My advice: Drop the synth and find some musicians =). Do you play guitar or anything? You have tremendous potential. Good luck and keep it up!

I concur, the synths threw off the feel of the song, but it was stated in the initial post, so i didn't figure to point it out again.

but yeah, i agree with Drako.

What I really would like to do is get into synths + electric guitar along the lines of "Panic! At the Disco", "Boys Night Out", "Hellogoodbye", etc. I can't even pretend to think think that the synths in the chorus compete with guitars because they don't. However, I feel that synths can be used in rock music if used properly.

I think my verses are fine but the chorus just lacks the grit of a real rock song.

I may re-record the bridge if you were really looking forward to that part of the song, Drako :) I had a tough time figuring out what he says and lyrics sheets were wrong, I think, so I just kind of freestyled it :)

I found it very interesting. I do agree that you could probably load fruity with some better sample's for free really. But that said, I liked the arrangement as well as the vocal's for sure. You have a good voice for that song for sure.

Nice going with that tune, look forward to hearing more.

Pretty cool cover. I love that song. As everybody mentioned, you have a great voice. Crystal clear, not muddy whatsoever, cuts through the mix well. Use diff. samples and you'd be good to go.
